Mobile games weren’t always as advanced as they are now, and although they still don’t compete from a majority standpoint with console and gaming PCs, there’s no denying that mobile games today are quite impressive compared to just five years ago, and they’re really only getting better not just in graphics but in actual gameplay mechanics and other important areas.
While there are already a hefty number of decent games to play that you can install right this second, there’s a handful of upcoming titles that are worth looking out for which promise to take things to the next level in terms of mobile games.
Some are more obvious than others, but all of these upcoming games have something great to offer and should have no trouble appealing to a wide number of users. A big reason for that is because a lot of these titles span a wide variety of genres, meaning there should be something for everyone.
Call of Duty Mobile
Jumping right in with Call of Duty Mobile might seem like a cliche, but when you get right down to it there are few game franchises that have the clout as Activision’s popular first-person shooter. It continually ranks as one of the best-selling games every year when a new one is released, and though Call of Duty Mobile will be free, it will no doubt be a popular mobile game.
Thanks in part to its confirmed battle royale mode, as well as the other unnamed modes that the game will include as Activision hasn’t shared everything about the game just yet. If you’re into eSports, this is another reason to keep an eye on Call of Duty Mobile as mobile eSports is becoming bigger and Call of Duty will most certainly look to carve out a spot for itself in the space.
The game promises familiar Call of Duty gameplay features as well as plenty of customization from loadouts to character classes, so expect a lot of stuff to sink your teeth into. If you haven’t already done so, you can pre-register for the game on the Play Store which might get you into any future betas.
Mario Kart Tour
This one from Nintendo should still be fresh in everyone’s minds as the closed beta just launched earlier this week and will continue until the first week of June, followed by an official release this Summer at some point.
There’s no word on an exact release date just yet but from limited time and impressions with the game in its beta state, the game has plenty of potential despite it having what some would consider too many micro transactions. When it comes to gameplay and graphics, Mario Kart Tour looks polished and feels polished.
Controls are simple, yet there’s just enough of a challenge to master a few things like the perfect drift boost around every corner. There’s a large list of drivers you can collect and plenty of options for karts and gliders too, and a multitude of levels pulled from just about every Mario Kart game imaginable across the many platforms the franchise can be found on. You can’t pre-register for this on the Play Store yet but it should be coming soon.
Diablo Immortal
Whatever your feelings about Blizzard’s decision to branch out with the Diablo series and design a game for mobile that fits into the franchise, for a mobile game Diablo Immortal looks extremely promising. While there has only been limited access to the game at the moment, which only comes from the small demo that was available during BlizzCon in 2018, many impressions from people who had the chance to try it seemed to be pleased.
That isn’t going to win over every single Diablo fan, but there are no doubt going to be lots that are eager to give the game a try. If Blizzard takes its time and does things right from the start of the launch, then Diablo immortal could very well play out nicely with a solid story and campaign to follow. Plus, there’s just something about being able to fight against the armies of hell while on the go that sounds downright exciting.
With six familiar classes, what look and sound like surprisingly accurate and fluid controls, and an undeniably Diablo-like setting, this is one to watch if you’re not only a fan of Diablo but a fan of hack and slash action RPGs in general.
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite
Fans of Ingress and Pokémon GO who might also happen to adore the Harry Potter series will want to keep an eye on this one as it’s the next game from the makers of those previous two titles. Though it might end up being almost identical to Pokémon GO, its unique spin on the type of game with a Harry Potter theme should still be appealing enough to test it out.
If you’ve ever wanted to be part of the wizarding world then this might be your best chance to feel like a magic wielder while out and about.
Forza Street
Racing game fans, especially those who own and prefer Xbox, just might find the upcoming Forza Street to be worthy of space on their mobile devices. Though the game already exists for Windows 10 PCs it was confirmed to be coming to Android sometime later in 2019. There’s no hard release date, but the game looks good so far and just might provide a better experience than the one you get with Need for Speed No Limits, which is admittedly still pretty decent.
This is another game you won’t find on the Play Store just yet for pre-registration, but if you’re curious to see what the gameplay is like you can play it for free on Windows 10 devices, keeping in mind that gameplay could be altered a little bit for mobile. That said you will at the very least have a batter picture of what to expect once it does land on the Play Store.
