It’s not exactly a secret that the Samsung Galaxy Fold’s release was postponed due to display-related issues, and everyone is waiting on Samsung to release more info regarding the situation, including a new release date.
Well, according to a new report by Yonhap News Agency, a Korean news outlet, the Galaxy Fold may not ship to consumers as soon as you may think. The device was expected to go on sale in June, but according to the source, that will not happen.
It seems like improving the Galaxy Fold will take more time than the company anticipated, as Samsung wants to make sure that there are no additional hardware-related issues to face once the phone goes on sale.
In addition to improving the Galaxy Fold aka fixing its display-related issues, Samsung is also “testing network interworking”. The report states that the company will probably announce the phone’s release date in June, but the device itself may become available in July.
Huawei’s recent issues due to US sanctions may prove it difficult for the company to release its very first foldable smartphone, which was expected to launch soon, and that may actually benefit Samsung, as it basically provides the company more time to improve the Galaxy Fold.
Samsung announced earlier that it will automatically cancel Galaxy Fold reservations after May 31 if the device does not ship to consumers by then, and it’s quite obvious that won’t happen. The company did offer consumers a chance to keep their reservation, by manually confirming they want to do so, of course.
The Samsung Galaxy Fold was announced back in February, along with the Galaxy S10 series of smartphones. The Galaxy Fold is Samsung’s very first foldable smartphone, and if not for its display issues, interested parties would be using the phone already.
Samsung shipped out a limited number of Galaxy Fold units to reviewers, and that’s when issues started occurring. Some reviewers were to blame for those issues as they tried to remove the protective layer on top of the display, and broke the display, as they thought it’s a screen protector. Other units had general display issues, as displays started acting weird and basically shutting down, which hinted that something is wrong on the hardware side of things.
Samsung vouched that it will fix such issues before the Galaxy Fold gets released, as ti definitely wants to avoid another Galaxy Note7-like fiasco. The Galaxy Fold is made out of metal and glass, and it opens up like a book.
The device’s main panel measures 7.3 inches in diagonal, while the secondary display is smaller at 4.6 inches. The device is fueled by the Snapdragon 855, while it includes 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage The phone includes three cameras on the back, and two on the front, while Android 9 Pie comes pre-installed on the device with Samsung’s custom UI.
