Camping is a perfect activity for Spring or Summer, depending on where you live, and what you prefer. Well, if you like camping, and are planning to go in the near future, we’ve hand-picked some applications from the Play Store that you may consider installing for that very purpose.
There are a ton of applications that we could have included on this list, including some general ones, like Google Photos, but we’ve decided to be a bit pickier here. Do note that these are only our favorites, you may prefer some other options, of course.
Before you start browsing, you should know that the order of these apps is completely irrelevant, just because one app is listed before the other does not mean anything. That’s pretty much it, if you’re planning a camping trip soon, consider utilizing some of these applications.
Offline Survival Manual
Having a survival manual while you’re camping is always a good idea, and having one that does not require you to have an Internet connection is an even better idea. This app is filled with useful information, it will teach you how to make a fire, build a shelter, find food, heal various wounds, and so on. The app is separated into a number of categories for easier navigation, and the UI design is pretty straightforward.

Compass Galaxy
Having a compass, much like having a survival manual, is a no-brainer for camping trips. So, if you don’t have an actual compass with you, you can always install one on your phone. Compass Galaxy is a solid compass application, which has one purpose, it is a compass, and nothing flashy. The app does not require any special permissions, or anything of the sort. If you ever get lost, having a compass can help you immensely.
Wild Camping
Wild Camping is not an overly popular application, but it is currently holding a 5-star rating in the Play Store, and it’s quite useful. This app has four main functions, displays latitude and longitude, comes with a flashlight and useful knot tutorials, while emergency information is also included here. So just in case your phone does not have a flashlight option outside of the camera, or you need to learn how to tie a knot, this app has you covered.
Camping Checklist
Camping Checklist is an app that specializes in checklists for camping, as its name says. The design of this app is really simple, and even though a regular checklist app can serve you very well for that purpose, having a specialized one may be a better idea, as it already has a list of items that you may think of bringing with you on a camping trip. You can always create your own checklists, of course, and the app’s UI is really simple and easy to use.

WikiCamps USA
WikiCamps USA is your camping companion, essentially, and it is available for a number of other countries as well. This app works offline, so you don’t have to worry about an Internet connection. This app is essentially a crowd-sourced database of campgrounds, caravan parks, backpacker hotels, day stops, dump points, information centers, and so on. All in all, it’s a huge database, and having access to something like this may prove to be quite useful.
HERE WeGo
HERE WeGo is a maps application, and some of you may wonder why we didn’t list Google Maps here. Well, even though you can download a particular part of the map in Google Maps, offline navigation does not really work for walking, unlike HERE WeGo. You can actually download maps for whole countries in this application, and navigate without an Internet connection without an issue, so preparing for your camping trip by downloading maps is a good idea.
Weawow
It wouldn’t really be a list of best camping applications without a proper weather application, now would it. Weawow is not exactly a brand new app, but chances are not many of you heard about it. This is one of the highest-rated apps in the Play Store, and it’s really great. It comes with a customizable widget, and plenty of options, and detailed weather information. So before you go on your camping trip, make sure that the weather will serve you well.
iOverlander
iOverlander is a huge database for overlanders and travelers. This app comes with info regarding camping, hotels, restaurants, mechanics, water, propane filling, and so on. It’s a truly huge database that can come in handy in a number of situations, like if your car breaks down in the middle of nowhere, or you simply need to find the nearest lodging. You can also record your trip using this application, in a way, and also share places with other travelers.
First Aid
First Aid kit is a must-have when you’re out and about in the middle of nowhere. This app is exactly what you think it is, a great source of information if an accident happens on your camping trip. It provides step-by-step instructions through first aid scenarios, it also includes videos and animations to assist you. It is also fully integrated with 9-1-1, and preloaded content provides you instant access to information even without an Internet connection.
Icon Torch
The vast majority of smartphones have a separate icon for activating a flashlight, but if your device does not, and you do not want to navigate to the camera every time you need a flashlight, download this app. Icon Torch is exactly what its name says, this app will add a torch icon on your phone’s display, so that you have direct access to activating your phone’s LED flash.
