How To Turn On Dolby Atmos On Your Galaxy

Samsung started adding Dolby Atmos support to its smartphones with the Galaxy S9 last year (and it is rolling out to the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note8 now). It makes the speakers on Samsung’s smartphones sound even better than ever, but it is not on by default. Which is a bit of a surprising thing to have turned off by default, but it is.

Turning on Dolby Atmos is pretty simple, and once you do turn it on, you’re going to want it on all the time. Here’s how to turn on Dolby Atmos and fine-tune it to your liking.

How To Turn On Dolby Atmos

There are a couple of ways to turn on Dolby Atmos. The easiest way is to pull down the notification shade, swipe over to the second page and tap on the Dolby Atmos toggle.

The other way is to jump into Settings and then tap on Sound & Vibrations.

Now scroll down to Advanced Sound Settings.

Tap on Sound Quality and Effects.

Then Toggle the Dolby Atmos setting to on.

You can also opt to turn on Dolby Atmos for gaming, which is going to make the gaming experience even more immersive.

It’s just that simple to turn on Dolby Atmos on your smartphone. It will work with the speaker and with the headphones when they are plugged in. Which is a good thing, but you’ll want to tune them to your liking.

How To Tune Dolby Atmos

To tune Dolby Atmos to your liking, follow the instructions above. But tap on the “Dolby Atmos” option in the settings, to the left of the toggle.

From there, you’re going to be able to choose from Auto, Movie, Music or Voice.

For most people, Auto is going to be the best option, if you want Dolby Atmos to work all throughout your phone. No matter what you’re doing. Now if you are about to watch a movie, switching it to “Movie” will be the best option. This is because it’s going to deliver the best possible audio for movies. It will really make a different for music and voice (for things like podcasts) too.

Wrap Up

Dolby Atmos is a great feature to have on a smartphone, especially a smartphone that has stereo speakers that sound really good already. Dolby Atmos is able to make the sound even better than it was originally. Once you turn on Dolby Atmos, you can never go back to not having it, and that’s the truth. Luckily, it is a feature that more and more phones are adding these days, including OnePlus with its new OnePlus 7 Pro.

Those that listen to a lot of music on their smartphone are going to love Dolby Atmos, and it’s going to sound great. Whether you listen through the phone’s speakers or through a pair of headphones that are plugged into the headphone jack. So that this is one of the few quick settings that you’ll never turn off. Simply because it just isn’t necessary.
