MashApp has launched a brand new mobile application for both iOS and Android, and the company claims that its goal is to “change the way we socialize online”. This app’s goal is to liven up social media with participatory video and creative collaboration, as per the company’s press release.
This app’s main focus is on video interactions, instead of scrolling various feeds filled with content, and tapping like while you’re at it. MashApp does not prompt you to create a profile page, while it doesn’t include any “like”-adjacent feature either. The company also claims that brands will not distract you while you’re interacting, and the same can be said for bots.
The company is trying to make people become more creative by using MashApp, instead of being “force-fed passive followers”. MashApp is a gathering of people, in private threads, where people can interact with each other. All you have to do is record a video clip, and insert it anywhere in the thread of the existing video you’ve chosen to participate in.
The company says that the creation of this app was inspired by the previous cinematic experience, as they actually launched a movie project called Bruime: Games in the Darkness, before launching this app. That movie was inspired by a 17th century rhyming game called Bouts-rimes.
MashApp is a brand new application, so it doesn’t really have plenty of reviews, only six at the time of writing this article. At the moment, it is holding a 4.7-star rating, and it remains to be seen how well will the app be accepted by the community.
The full name of this app, in the Play Store, is “MashApp – Video Punchlines”. So the company essentially wants you to create short punchlines as reactions to other videos, and communicate in that way with the rest of your group.
MashApp does allow you to invite friends to participate, as expected, and it’s considerably different than basically any other social media application that we’ve stumbled upon thus far, which may be a good thing.
The design of this app is extremely simple, the majority of it is white, and that is combined with the video content, and some other elements. The app is made to fit both iOS and Android, so it’s not exactly in line with Google’s Material Design guidelines, but that probably won’t matter to the vast majority of people.
It remains to be seen what will this app evolve into, especially if it becomes popular, as that is the safest way to ensure that it will be around in the future. Check out the gallery down below if you’d like to check out the app’s design, while you can download the app via the link down below, if you’d like to try it out.
All you need to use it is a phone which runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow or a newer version of Android, and prepare yourself to download a 47MB file. The application is free to use, and ads are not a part of the package.
