Motorola has unveiled its premium Motorola One Vision, but the company still has a phone left for the budget-friendly crowd in the Motorola One Action. The specs for the watered-down model have been obtained from an exclusive by 91mobiles.
The Motorola One Action, like all budget-friendly phones, will have some watered-down specs as opposed to the high-end One Vision. The One Action sports the same 6.3-inch, Full HD+ (2,520 x 1,080p) display as the One Vision. The One Action will be powered by the same Exynos 9609 processor, Mali G72 GPU, and 3,500mAh battery as the higher-end One Vision. The One Vision passed through the FCC with its battery size intact before Motorola announced the smartphone last month.
The use of a Samsung Exynos SoC here is surprising here instead of a lower-end Qualcomm SoC, but perhaps the One Action will be a mid-end device or a budget-friendly premium device (if such a phone can exist outside of mid-tier expectations). The Exynos 9609 (or 9610) is said to be based on 10-nanometer node technology and feature four ARM Cortex A73 CPU cores and four Cortex A53 CPU cores (an octa-core processor).
The One Action, like the high-end One Vision, will also sport a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor (no in-display sensor here) and a punch-hole display (a display where the camera is placed inside or under the display and a hole is cut out of the display to make room for it).
But there are a few changes, some surprising and some not so much. First, the budget-friendly One Action will have three rear cameras as opposed to two rear cameras on the One Vision. One of the three rear cameras will be a primary 12.6MP camera, though the exact specs of the other two are unknown at this point. The selfie camera will be a 12.6MP camera as well, so there’s that.
The Motorola One Action will have two RAM variants, 3GB and 4GB, as well as three storage configurations (32GB, 64GB, and 128GB). There is expandable storage here, if its resemblance to the One Vision bears out. The 32GB variant will have 3GB of RAM for those who are wondering. The back cover of the Motorola One Action is said to be plastic instead of the 4D Corning Gorilla Glass on the back of the Motorola One Vision. The front of the One Vision is made of metal, though it’s probable the One Action will be made of polycarbonate plastic on its front and back.
The use of plastic instead of glass testifies to the budget-friendly intent of the One Action. Plastics are more durable, of course, but they’re also more inexpensive to produce than Gorilla Glass.
Finally, the colors. Motorola One Action buyers can expect to purchase the budget-friendly device in Blue and Gold, though no specific color shades have been provided.
While the Motorola One Action will be a more affordable Motorola One Vision, Motorola does have a Motorola One Pro in the works that could be an even higher-end model than the One Vision. It’s reasonable to assume that the One Pro will have more storage, larger cameras (or those comparable to the One Vision), a bigger battery, and perhaps water and dust resistance and screen resolution will make an appearance as well.
Motorola said back in April of this year that it would have a Motorola One Vision smartphone to release this year. Prior to that claim, Google dropped the name publicly on its AR Core support page.
The Motorola One Vision and the upcoming Motorola One Action are Motorola’s first two smartphones powered by Samsung Exynos processors. Perhaps the Motorola One Pro will be the third, though we’ll have to wait for an official announcement by Motorola. No word yet on when that might happen, so sit tight.
