Ubisoft officially announced the next game in the Watchdogs franchise, called Watchdogs: Legion, during its E3 press conference and Stadia lead Phil Harrison has confirmed that it would be coming to Stadia marking another big game for the platform as part of its partnership with Ubisoft.
Phil Harrison notes that the game will release on Stadia in March of 2020 and although he doesn’t give a specific date, the official E3 reveal trailer from Ubisoft for the game lists the release date as March 6 and has Stadia listed as one of the launch platforms alongside Ps4, Xbox One, and PC so the launch date is probably going to hit all platforms on the same day.
Watch Dogs: Legion will be the third game in the series following the original Watch Dogs as well as Watch Dogs 2, and takes place in London, allowing players to recruit a legion of different in-game characters to be a part of a resistance whose aim is to shatter the control of what appears to be a totalitarian government filled with weaponized drones and citizen imprisonment.
Watch Dogs is an open world hacking game that promotes a massive map for players to explore and in this case will span the city of London, though it’s not entirely clear just how large the map would be. If the cinematic shots in the trailer along with the comparison to the maps from the two previous games are any indication however Watchdogs: Legion should offer players a ton of stuff to discover.
Being that this is one of Ubisoft’s major reveals for the year at E3 and one of its larger launches for 2020, it seems clear that Ubisoft has more or less gone all in on Stadia as one of the publisher partners, especially when you consider the announcement for Uplay+ coming next year in addition to the other games from the company that are planned to be available at launch for the Stadia platform in November.
That’s great news for Stadia because it will need strong partnerships like it appears to have with Ubisoft to stick around with the bigger players in the gaming industry.
There’s no mention of how much Watchdogs: Legion will cost on Stadia if players want to buy it as a standalone title, but it should launch at the same price as it would on any other platform which is going to be about $60.
The game will also be part of Uplay+ so those looking to play as many Ubisoft games as they can get their hands on may want to consider playing the game this way as they could easily play and beat it well before a month is up, and then move on to a different Ubisoft title all for the same $14.99 a month that the publisher subscription will cost.
Stadia will launch sometime in November and come with Destiny 2: The Collection as part of the Founder’s Edition bundle, which includes three months of access to Stadia Pro, a Stadia controller, a Chromecast Ultra, and dibs on choosing your gamertag.
