Gacha RPGs are extremely popular in Asia and have grown increasingly popular in the US as well, and Gamevil has a new one on the way that will be launching on July 23 called Elune. Though the game’s release date is still a few weeks away, you can already pre-register for it through the Google Play Store.
In some cases pre-registration is merely so you can receive notifications about when the game launches, this way you don’t have to try and remember the release date. In other cases pre-registering gains you a chance at being selected for any open betas, like with Blizzard’s upcoming Diablo Immortal. In the best cases, pre-registering gets you all of that in addition to in-game rewards, and that’s the case with Elune.
If you pre-register you’ll end up getting a handful of in-game rewards for the trouble, which is really no trouble at all. As for what those rewards are, Gamevil is handing out 11 Elune summons, which are used for summoning new Elune heroes to add to your roster, as well as 100,000 Gold and 100 Aeons, two of the games digital currencies.
The game itself centers around heroes called Elunes which are tasked with restoring order to a world plunged into chaos, the sort of typical underlying theme in many RPGs. In Elune there are multiple dimensions all of which pose some sort of danger to their inhabitants in one way or another, and the Elunes that you collect have to travel across these dimensions to get rid of those dangers.
There are over 200 different Elunes to collect in all each having their own unique abilities. As you build your roster you might stick to a handful of Elunes that you prefer, but once you collect a significant amount some may be better suited for certain battles than others, offering benefits that you may not get with the ones you’ve been using.
Graphics-wise the visuals in Elune seem to be pretty similar to most of Gamevil’s action RPG titles on mobile in recent years though there is a bit more of an anime feel to this one. As for gameplay, combat looks to be turn-based instead of using real-time action, such as in Talion, another RPG from Gamevil which is more of an action MMO.
The main gameplay and mode in Elune will be the single-player-based campaign, but there will be a PvP mode too so you can battle against other players. Battles in this mode include two teams of five, though it’s likely that the PvP is you against one other person, each having four additional Elunes in the roster along with the main one you control. That said there is no further description on how the PvP mode actually works so the battles could actually include 10 real players split up into two teams.
If gacha RPGs aren’t your style, then you may not enjoy Elune, but if you’ve never actually played one before then it might be worth checking it out once it launches next month. Some of them can be surprisingly good.
