Google Assistant can be a useful tool for many different things from answering silly questions to full-on controlling stuff around the house for you if those things support the platform. Google Assistant also plays games with you, and in partnership with the U.S. Navy Google has launched a brand new game for the artificial intelligence that lets you take a journey to the moon. In fact, that’s the actual name of it.
This new interactive game lets you answer questions about space travel and what it’s like to be an astronaut, including things like what you should do to help the crew stay calm during launch. The game is in celebration of the 50th anniversary Apollo 11 moon landing, and alongside being a fun game to play if you’re even the slightest bit interested in U.S. history, it’s actually quite informative too.
The game will have some unique story dialogue that players will be able to interact with but there are also some audio recordings and pieces of information that are from the actual Apollo 11 launch, making this a learning experience of sorts which is great if you have kids that have taken an interest in space and all-things NASA.
The game isn’t supposed to be live until July 19 which is this coming Friday, but it seems to be live a couple of days early so if you wanted to try this out for yourself you should be able to bring it right up. All you will need to get started with the interactive Journey To The Moon game is a Google Assistant-powered speaker like the Google Home or Google Home Mini, the Google Assistant Smart Display or any number of smartphones that have access to Google Assistant such as the Pixel line of devices.
If you have any of the aforementioned pieces of hardware then you’re ready to get started and to bring up the game simply utter the phrase “Hey Google, talk to Journey To The Moon,” and Google Assistant will first ensure that you’re aware of certain types of data collection when using such tools then launch you into the game.
Since this is a partnership with the Navy the game also serves the purpose of helping to teach people the kinds of career opportunities the Navy can afford individuals, as Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the Moon had a background in the Navy before joining NASA.
The overall theme of the game is to see if you’re capable of helping the Apollo 11 crew land on the moon. There is of course no way to actually lose this game it seems, as it’s just a series of questions and if you get any wrong you’re given the opportunity to answer the questions again or skip forward. That said it is possible that skipping ahead and sticking with an incorrect answer may lead to an undesirable result, but you’ll have to play through the game to figure that out for yourself.
You will have until August 17 to enjoy the game, at which point Google will probably respond after trying to activate the game by saying something like “I’m sorry, I don’t understand,” so take advantage of the game’s availability while you can.
