Harry Potter: Wizards Unite To Record Walking In The Background

During its San Diego Comic Con panel this week the creators of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite took the time to celebrate the game’s first official Community Day that took place on July 20, which allowed players to unlock some unique in-game content and items as they walked around their local cities. The panel of course wasn’t just about celebrating the game’s first official Community Day or the upcoming Fan Festival happening on August 31.

There were some new features announced for the game that will undoubtedly make it more appealing to players and add some quality of life value to the game overall. One of these new upcoming features will allow players to record their walking distances even when they don’t have the game open in the foreground.

This is a big improvement simply because this will let players progress in the game in some ways while not having it on the screen, which means they’ll be able to save battery life. Typically with games like Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, Pokémon GO, and Ingress Prime, players will counteract battery drain by connecting their phones to a portable battery pack that can constantly keep their phones charged, and that’s not a bad idea if you plan to be out all day playing.

With this new feature though, anyone who simply wishes to record more walking distance for things in the game when they don’t intend to play it, which could be useful for short walks, will have the opportunity. There is no mention of when this feature will appear in the game, just that it will be showing up soon, so players who are likely to utilize it will just need to keep an eye out for it for now.

In addition to the walk recording in the background dragons are also going to be introduced into the game in the near future, starting with types such as the Welsh Green and the Antipodean Opaleye. Dragons will start appearing in the game on or around the start of the Fan Festival that takes place on August 31 of this year, and it seems that they will only be showing up around the area of the festival which takes place in Indianapolis.

The key factor is that when the festival is over, each dragon will actually be limited to specific regions around the globe, just like some of the Pokémon in Pokémon GO are limited to certain continents. The Fan Fest will end on September 1, which means after that time players will only see certain types of dragons in their regions and will need to physically be in other regions to encounter other types of dragons that are not available in their own locales.

Right now there is no explanation of which dragons will be specific to which regions, so this is a detail that is likely to surface after they start appearing at the fan fest next month. If you want the opportunity to encounter these new in-game creatures, going to the festival is your best bet as it will probably mean the least amount of travel for anyone who plays the game in the US.
