OPPO has trademarked 22 new smartphone models. Back in October last year, the company launched its very first OPPO K smartphone, and to this day, only two OPPO K smartphones have been released, the OPPO K1 and K3.
That being said, the company has just trademarked 22 new names with the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office), and all of those names belong to the OPPO K series of devices, which suggests that we’ll see many more devices in that series in the coming months.
OPPO has trademarked the OPPO K1, K2, K3, K4, K5, K6, K7, K8, K9, K10, K11, K12, K13, K20, K30, K40, K50, K60, K70, K80, K90, K100. As you can see, the company trademarked names for both devices that were already released (in a couple of markets), and in addition to that, 20 more names for its smartphones.
All of these trademarks are categorized as “Class 9”, and smartphones belong in that class, so… it’s quite obvious what we’re dealing with here. OPPO is no stranger to submitting such a large number of trademarks, as the company did something similar a year ago, when it trademarked 40 new smartphone models, though not a single OPPO K phone was among them.
With the OPPO K series of smartphones, the company is focusing on millennials, basically. The OPPO K1, the very first OPPO K smartphone, costs around €200. Every single OPPO K smartphone is expected to be quite affordable, and we probably won’t see a flagship-grade OPPO K-branded smartphones, as that is what the OPPO Reno series of devices is for. Though, truth be said, OPPO is using the “Reno” name for both mid-range and flagship-grade phones, it seems as the first two Reno-branded phones were a mid-ranger, and a flagship.
The OPPO K3 launched soon after the OPPO K1, and it brought forth the company’s VOOC 3.0 fast charging technology, and a slightly larger display than the OPPO K1. We do not know what will the other OPPO K smartphones have to offer, but the company will have to find a way to differentiate.
More OPPO K-branded smartphones are expected to become official by the end of the year, but we still do now know which ones will arrive. By sheer logic, the OPPO K3 and K4 should be next, but who knows, as the OPPO K1 and K3 were first, for whatever reason.
OPPO has some big plans for the future, as the company is working on a phone with an under-display camera, which will probably make splashes in the tech world, presuming OPPO ends up being one of the first smartphone manufacturers to pull it off. Xiaomi has also developed a prototype of such a smartphone, so it will be interesting to see which of the two companies will get to the market first. That device will probably be flagship-grade, though, and will not have the OPPO K-brand attached to it… but we’ll see, anything is possible at this point in time, as OPPO did not share any specific info just yet.
