Trademark Reveals Name Of Galaxy Note10+'s ToF Camera

Samsung has submitted yet another trademark, this time around with IPO (Intellectual Property Office) over in the UK. Samsung trademarked something called “DepthVision Lens”, and we have a pretty good idea of what it is.

This trademark was submitted by Filedfisher from London, which is the same company that trademarked “XCover FieldPro” device last week, also in Samsung’s name. This new trademark is not a smartphone or anything of the sort, as its name says, it’s some sort of a camera lens.

The DepthVision Lens trademark was filed under “Class 9” over at IPO, which stands for smartphones, cameras for smartphones, cameras, cameras to generate a virtual 3D image by 3D scanning, and so on. You get the idea, everything related to smartphones and cameras is filed in this class.

Now, our best guess for this trademark has something to do with the upcoming Galaxy Note10 series. The Galaxy Note10+ is expected to include a ToF (Time-of-Flight) camera on the back, and this could be the name Samsung will use for that camera.

A ToF camera is essentially a depth camera of sorts, and if rumors and leaks are to be believed, only the Galaxy Note10+ model (also known as the Galaxy Note10 Pro) will include it, not the regular Galaxy Note10.

The Samsung Galaxy Note10 series is expected to debut on August 7, at least according to the latest piece of info that surfaced. August 10 was mentioned at the beginning of June, but at the moment, August 7 seems like a more probable date for the launch of Samsung’s new flagships.

The two Galaxy Note10 series smartphones will be quite similar in terms of the design, with the main difference being that ToF camera on the back. Both devices are rumored to include extremely thin bezels above and below the display, and their displays will be curved on the sides.

Those two smartphones will offer a boxier design than the Galaxy Note9, and the Galaxy S10 series, and will also include a different front-facing camera placement. On the Galaxy S10 series, the front-facing camera(s) is included in the top-right corner of the display, it’s essentially a hole in the display. Well, on the Galaxy Note10 phones, that camera hole will be centered at the top of the display.

The Galaxy Note10 series is rumored to have a three-stage variable aperture, which is something we have not seen on any other device thus far. Those apertures will include f/1.5, f/1.8, and f/2.4 stages, according to rumors.

Android 9 Pie will come pre-installed on the Galaxy Note10 series, along with Samsung’s One UI Android overlay. The two devices will be fueled by the Exynos 9820 (or Exynos 9825) in Europe and India, while the Snapdragon 855 will fuel the two phones in the US and China. It’s also worth noting that Samsung is rumored to release both devices in 4G and 5G variants. A brand new S Pen will be included with both phones, but neither of the two devices will offer a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is something both the Galaxy Note9, and the Galaxy S10 shipped with.
