Some of the US carriers pushed out an update last month with the June security update and the new dedicated Night Mode for the Galaxy S10+. Sprint decided to wait it out, as it found some serious bugs in the update – which the other carriers then had to deal with quickly. It rolled out the June update, but didn’t include the Night Mode feature. Well that has changed today.
Sprint is now rolling out the July security patch, which includes the dedicated Night Mode for the Galaxy S10+ camera. Which is going to make Sprint users very happy.
The update in question is build number G975USQU2ASG8 and it weighs in at about 509MB in size. So it’s a pretty sizable update this time around. Security updates are not usually that large, when they are rolled out, usually about a fifth of that size. So it’s likely that Samsung has also included some other fixes, in addition to that dedicated Night Mode with this camera.
Some may be asking, what’s the big deal with this dedicated Night Mode? Samsung’s Galaxy S10 lineup has a Night Mode. This is true. But, that Night Mode was not one that you could toggle on when you wanted. The camera would use Night Mode when it felt that it needed more light. So the user was not in full control of it unfortunately.
Now, users are able to switch over to that Night Mode and use it whenever they want. Additionally, this Night Mode also has some improvements. You’ll find that it actually takes better photos than the previous Night Mode, which is pretty impressive to say the least. And definitely good for those pictures you’re going to take at night or in the bar.
This Night Mode is especially important, as it’s going to keep more people from using that flash, which really just makes pictures worse.
The update is rolling out now, and Galaxy S10+ users should be getting it over the next few days. To pulldown the update, you can go into Settings, tap on “About Phone” then tap on “System Updates” and check for an update. It may not pull it down right away, as this is likely a staged rollout. While it is annoying, staged rollouts help Sprint and Samsung make sure that this update does not have any huge issues that are keeping devices from booting back up – like sticking in a bootloop.
There’s no word just yet on when the other Galaxy S10 models can expect to get this update, but it should be coming in the next couple of weeks. Likely after the Galaxy S10+ update is fully rolled out. Sprint is the last carrier to roll out this update, and this time around it looks like that was a good decision on Sprint’s behalf. As the other carriers had some massive issues – like users not being able to unlock and get into their device. So sometimes patience can be a good thing, when it comes to software updates.
