T-Mobile Introduces New REVVL Smartphones, REVVLRY and REVVLRY Plus

T-Mobile is updating its REVVL family smartphone line with two new smartphones: REVVLRY and REVVLRY+.

The UN-carrier made its official announcement today. Both of these new smartphones are said to offer flagship specs at a cost that anybody can afford. First, there’s the REVVLRY+, the best of the REVVLRY series. The REVVLRY+ features a 6.24-inch Full HD+ Max Vision display with a 2270 x 1080p screen resolution and 19:9 aspect ratio, a 1.8GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, 16MP +5MP dual rear-facing cameras with LED flash, 12MP front-facing camera with screen flash, IP54 water and dust resistance, 3,000mAh battery, and Android 9.0 Pie.

The REVVLRY, on the other hand, features a 5.7-inch HD+ display with a 1520 x 720p screen resolution and 19:9 aspect ratio, 1.8GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 chipset, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, 8MP front-facing camera, 13MP rear-facing camera with LED flash, face unlock, fingerprint sensor, and a 3,000mAh battery with Android 9.0 Pie. The REVVLRY is “water-repellent” as opposed to water-resistant, so you shouldn’t expect much here in the way of water protection. Still, to get some water protection on a device that retails for $200 is a steal.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon processors are fitting for the prices on these two handsets. The displays are large for this price but expected (it’s a good thing), as is the case with the RAM, 64GB storage, and even dual back cameras. Face unlock and fingerprint sensors are also wonderful but needed biometric identification, regardless of the price point. The RAM, storage, dual back cameras, display sizes, and biometric identification are featured on flagships, so T-Mobile has these specs right when it comes to labeling its specs “flagship.”

The 32GB of storage on the REVVLRY remains unchanged from the first-generation REVVL announced in 2017, though T-Mobile added an additional GB of RAM (from 2GB to 3GB). The REVVLRY+’s 3,000mAh battery is a decline from the 3,380mAh battery found in the original REVVL Plus.

The RAM and storage on the REVVLRY+ are double what the original REVVL Plus featured two years ago, but also, the price of the REVVLRY+ is double what the REVVL Plus was as well ($200 for the REVVL Plus versus $350 for the REVVLRY+).

T-Mobile says that both of these new, third-generation REVVL smartphones take advantage of T-Mobile’s 600MHz network, which provides better reception indoors, in rural areas, and buildings. Additionally, both are only available in Black, so there’s no color customization here.

The REVVLRY+ has the signature “waterdrop” notch that has become popular with some Android handsets, while the REVVLRY has more of a basic “bar” notch. The REVVLRY bar notch houses the front-facing camera and LED flash while the REVVLRY+ features the waterdrop notch for the front-facing camera only.

The water resistance and battery size are small for what T-Mobile views as “flagship specs,” but Samsung has a 3,000mAh battery in the Galaxy S10e and charges $750 for it (of course, there are other features on the S10e as well that mandate the price, such as the Wide Angle and telephoto lenses, among others).

The IP54 water resistance of the REVVLRY+ is more splash-resistant than water-resistant, but at least the handset has some water protection. There are handsets that cost three times as much that don’t offer any water protection (here’s looking at you, most Android flagships!).

The REVVLRY+ retails for $350, or $14 down and $14 per month for 24 months for customers who pass the mandatory credit check. The REVVLRY costs $200, and you can have it for $0 down and $8.34 per month for customers who pass the mandatory credit check.

As a bonus, Magenta says that it is hosting launch events for the REVVLRY and REVVLRY+ on July 19th at T-Mobile Signature Stores in Chicago, Las Vegas, Miami, New York City, San Francisco, and Santa Monica. Those who appear at these Signature Stores on that day will get 15 seconds to “grab Magenta paper” that can be used to redeem prizes, including a free REVVLRY or REVVLRY+ smartphone.

T-Mobile customers, let the revelry begin! Get ready to purchase these two new handsets next Friday, July 19th.
