If you subscribe to YouTube TV and you’re a fan of the Antiques Roadshow, look alive as you’ll soon be able to watch all of that content through YouTube TV, because PBS and PBS Kids are being added to the network lineup to give you an educational, wholesome helping of television.
According to the YouTube TV twitter the two channels won’t be coming until sometime later this year so you won’t be able to turn the TV on and get access to these channels right away, at least not through YouTube TV for now.
If you don’t already have YouTube TV the service carries a pretty wide range of different channels and content for you to watch, and normally it retails for $50 a month but Verizon is still doing a promotion where you can get the first month free by signing up for Fios.
Adding PBS and PBS Kids will bring the total lineup of networks for YouTube TV up to 88 when you don’t factor in the additional networks that cost extra on top of your monthly fee. Currently there are 86 networks which are included in the $50 monthly cost, and after PBS and PBS Kids are added, and if you count the additional networks you can buy a la carte that will bring YouTube TV’s total network count to 97.
As YouTube doesn’t mention an exact release date for the two upcoming networks, just that they’re coming, it may still be a couple of months or more before the channels go live. Once both networks are available though, viewers will have access to a multitude of popular shows beyond the above-mentioned Antiques Road Show, such as Arthur, Sesame Street, American Masters, Masterpiece Theater, Frontline and many more.
The general consensus of the new networks being added seems to be getting a well-received response from users, some look to be worried though that adding PBS and PBS Kids will cause YouTube TV to raise the price of the service again.
While it’s always possible that it could end up increasing its monthly fee by another $5, YouTube TV doesn’t mention anything of the sort in regards to the cost going up, so for now it might be best to assume that the cost will stay the same as it currently is, which is $50, unless YouTube TV comes out and says otherwise.
In addition to committing to adding two more networks to the lineup of those that are already available, YouTube TV has added other features that improve the service in other ways. For example, you can now speed through commercials a lot quicker than you used to before, a feature which was added back in the beginning of July.
The service also sent out emails back in June to some long-time subscribers, gifting them access to SHOWTIME at no additional cost, an extra channel that is normally $7 on top of the $50 monthly price.
We are excited to announce that a new network will be coming to the YouTube TV lineup later this year: @PBS and @PBSKIDS. Welcome to the family! 👏👏👏 pic.twitter.com/AaatKyl0tU
