Babbel Announces App Relaunch With Design & Content Overhaul

Babbel has announced a relaunch of its language-learning application. This relaunch came in order for the company “to capitalize on its growth in the US and to meet the needs of the digital generation”.

This refreshed Babbel app brings a brand new design to the table, in addition to new features. The company says that the new design is intuitive, and that you’ll get access to an overhauled learning content.

The overhauled app is now available for Android, iOS, and the web. Babbel says that the app now offers smarter onboarding, and a custom learning path. In addition to that, easier access to the topics that interest each user is possible, and clearer visualization of progress.

In addition to revamping its application, Babbel also announced that an independent study regarding the app has also been published. This study comes from researchers from Yale University, and proves that Babbel is helping its subscribers to learn new languages.

Choose your path more easily

In this revamped app, it’s easier to choose your path at the very beginning. This is done based on motivation and prior knowledge. Courses are suggested depending on whether users want to pick up a new hobby, skill up their career, or to move abroad.

At that point, individual starting levels can be chosen by the user, or determined by a placement quiz. The choice is up to you, of course.

Personalized content

Once you’ve determined where you want to start, you’re presented with a recommended individual learning syllabus. That syllabus is supposed to fit your skill level and goals.

For example, if you’re moving to Germany, a course on German dialect will help you immensely. If you’re taking up a new hobby, idioms are a fun way to get started.

Motivation is the key

Your progress is now more clearly outlined within the app, especially on the web. A weekly activity chart has also been included for the home screen. This activity chart displays the number of newly completed lessons and reviewed content. On top of that, you’ll get a visual overview of the current course progress, as well as an overall score.

Navigation is simpler than ever

Babbel says that every interaction screen throughout the interface has been updated. New iconography, graphic depictions of progress, content that hides when completed, and simpler visual navigation. All of those allow users to easily see their personal course development and shift between the modules and topics.

A sophisticated speech-recognition feature

The company says that practicing your conversational ability is quite important when learning a new language. That is true, of course. The company also realized that doing that is not always easy. Well, thanks to a new speech-recognition feature, it should be easier than before. This new engine will capture the nuances of pronunciation, which will enable you to get conversational quickly.

The course content has been updated

In addition to a revamped design, a completely overhauled learning content is also available. Babbel highlights that its courses aren’t copied, translated, or user-generated. These courses are hand-crafted specifically for each language pair. For example, an English speaker learning Spanish has a different progression through the app than one learning Polish.
