UPDATE: Huawei announced HarmonyOS in the meantime, which seems to be a global name for HongMeng OS. Click here for more info.

ORIGINAL: According to a new piece of information that surfaced, the Huawei Mate 30 Lite may become the very first HongMeng OS-powered smartphone. This information comes from a Slashleaks contributor, Teme, as he shared it via Twitter.

The shared information actually lists three devices, the Huawei Mate 30, Mate 30 Pro, and Mate 30 Lite, but it claims that only the Mate 30 Lite will ship with Huawei’s new operating system… and only its Chinese model, it seems.

The Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Lite will come with Android Q out of the box, and Huawei’s Emotion UI (EMUI) 10 on top of it, a brand new version of the company’s Android overlay. Teme also said that the company will introduce the Mate 30 series in mid-September, which is rather interesting considering that the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro launched in October last year.

For those of you who are out of the loop, HongMeng OS is Huawei’s very own operating system, which could serve as a plan B for Huawei, in case things with the US go in the wrong direction yet again, and the company ends up being cut off from Android.

Things have improved for Huawei a while back, and the company still plans to utilize Android on its devices, but it seems like HongMeng OS is still coming. HongMeng OS details are still uncertain (at the time of writing this article), but some information could surface later today, as some rumors suggested that might happen during the Emotion UI (EMUI) 10 announcement, but we’ll see.

Now, as far as the Huawei Mate 30 Lite is considered, the phone is expected to ship with rather thin bezels, and a display camera hole in the top-left corner. The phone will be made out of metal and glass or metal and plastic, we still don’t know.

The Mate 30 Lite is expected to feature a 6.26-inch fullHD+ display, while it will be fueled by the Kirin 810 64-bit octa-core processor, if rumors are to be believed. The device will also include 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, though an 8GB RAM model with 256GB of storage is also rumored.

A 3,900mAh battery had also been mentioned, and the same can be said for a quad camera setup on the back. The phone is rumored to include a 48-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel secondary sensor, and two additional 2-megapixel units on the back. We still don’t know what camera Huawei plans to utilize on the phone’s front side.

The phone will probably ship with a rear-facing fingerprint scanner, a regular capacitive one, which will be located right below the phone’s cameras. The back side of the phone will be curved, while the device will include a flat display.

All the physical keys are expected to be included on the right-hand side of this device, the volume up, volume down, and power / lock keys. A Type-C USB port will be placed on the bottom of the device, while the phone’s display will feature rounded corners. That is pretty much all the info that we have at the moment, but more will probably leak in the near future.
