The Galaxy Note 10 isn’t slated to launch until later this week, but it has already gotten its pre-launch update.
This is pretty common for Samsung smartphones. The company will release a big OTA a few days before the phone goes on sale. Basically after getting some feedback from those that got a review unit ahead of time. Noting some issues with the device. This time around, it appears to mostly be surrounding the camera and fingerprint sensor.
According to the changelog that is included with the update, Samsung has made changes to the performance of the fingerprint sensor, so it should now recognize it faster and more accurately. The performance of Touch screen has been improved, stability of camera has been improved and security of your device has been improved. According to the changelog.
The update should be N97*FXXU1ASH5 and it’ll weigh in at around 310MB. That’s a big update, but not as big as a new version of Android. Just to give you some context on how big the update is.
Our review unit, which is an unlocked Galaxy Note 10 Plus, has not yet received this update. So we can’t yet comment on how much this update improves things with the Galaxy Note 10 or Note 10 Plus just yet. But these are all areas where the Note 10 Plus was lagging and needed some improvements. So our expectations are pretty high once the update does hit our unit. That should be in the next day or two, if not today.
The Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10 Plus are both due to go on sale this Friday, August 23. These start at $949 and $1099 respectively. Obviously, these are some pretty pricey smartphones, but the one thing they do have going for them above their competitors at these prices, is the specs. Samsung has equipped both with 256GB of storage, as a base model. They also get 8GB and 12GB of RAM respectively, and not to mention they both also have the best displays on the market right now. That’s also a pretty big deal.
We haven’t yet put out our review of the Galaxy Note 10 Plus, but our initial thoughts and impressions on the device are pretty positive. It’s a pretty small upgrade over the Galaxy S10 line, but that was to be expected. Now when you compare it to the Galaxy Note 9, it’s a much bigger upgrade. Especially now that we have two different sized Galaxy Note smartphones. Now there’s one for those that want something smaller, and then one for those that prefer a larger smartphone.
The S Pen also got some improvements this year, including Air Actions. Which is going to allow you to do all sorts of cool gestures with the S Pen. It’s an extension of the Bluetooth support that it added last year.
Seeing Samsung pushing out updates to the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10 Plus so quickly is definitely a good sign. Though, it has been pretty good with updates in the past couple of years. Going from one of the slowest OEMs when it comes to updates, to one of the quickest.
