The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ are great smartphones. We’ve realized that in our full review which got published recently. That being said, a well-known tipster claims you should skip it if cameras are important to you. He hinted that you should wait for the Samsung Galaxy S11.
The Samsung Galaxy S11 may feature a truly innovative camera
Ice Universe went to Twitter to tease the Galaxy S11’s arrival. He said that the Samsung Galaxy S11 will sport a really innovative camera setup, “something that has never been seen before”. In addition to that, he plainly said that you should skip the Galaxy Note 10 if “you care about the camera”.
That’s pretty much all the info that Ice Universe shared, and is not much to go on. Truth be said, the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ are really capable camera smartphones. They are not the best around, though, at least not in our opinion. Samsung kept the hardware almost intact compared to the Galaxy S10, which limits the Galaxy Note 10 series to a degree.
It is safe to assume that the Samsung Galaxy S11 camera setup will bring something new and interesting to the table. It is time for Samsung to up its game in that regard, and it will almost certainly do it with the Samsung Galaxy S11 camera. So, Ice Universe is probably right, but he seems to know more than we do.
If we had to guess, we’d say that the Samsung Galaxy S11 camera will offer a triple-aperture lens, its main sensor. The Galaxy Note 10 series was rumored to sport such a lens, but that did not happen. So, it seems like Samsung is saving it for the Galaxy S11, which is expected to arrive in Q1 2020.
A liquid aperture lens is a possibility
A “liquid aperture lens” was also mentioned in one of the rumors a while back. If that ends up being included in the Galaxy S11, it could be a serious game-changer. Liquid aperture lenses can change their spherical curvatures when current is applied, for extremely fast changes in focal points.
We still can’t begin to guess what sensor will Samsung use for the Galaxy S11’s main camera. The company had released 64-megapixel and 108-megapixel ISOCELL sensors, but neither one of those will be included. Well, at least they won’t be included as the main camera, that’s for sure.
Those two sensors are mid-range offerings from the company. The Redmi Note 8 Pro will include a 64-megapixel sensor, while an upcoming Xiaomi-branded phone will sport a 108-megapixel one. Samsung will probably utilize those sensors on its mid-range phones, but not flagship ones.
The Galaxy S11 will almost certainly arrive in several variants, at least two. It is possible, though, that we will see three variants once again. It seems like the Galaxy S10e is quite interesting to consumers, so Samsung may release the Galaxy S11e, S11, and S11+ next year.
All Galaxy S11 handsets will probably be made out of metal and glass. It remains to be seen if Samsung will once again opt for display camera holes, or opt for something else. A pop-up front-facing camera, or an under-display camera are always an option, but we’ll see. Under-display cameras are still not where they’re supposed to be, so it’s quite optimistic to expect one of those to be included. The Galaxy S11 series is expected to arrive at the end of February, or in early March.
