Canalys, a market research company, has released its smartphone market analysis for Q2 2019. This market analysis focuses on Europe, and it is actually sharing some rather interesting data.
According to this report, out of the top five companies in Europe, only Samsung and Xiaomi managed to grow YoY (Year-over-Year). Both companies grew quite a bit, but Xiaomi grew twice as much as Samsung, and then some.
Samsung still leads the pack
Let’s take it one step at a time. Based on market share, Samsung is still the top dog in Europe, while it is followed by Huawei, Apple, Xiaomi, and HMD Global. Samsung managed to ship 18.3 million smartphones in Q2 2019, 3 million more than in the same period last year. The South Korean giant is holding 40.6-percent of the market, and managed to grow 20-percent YoY.
Huawei managed to ship 8.5 million smartphones in Q2 2019, while it shipped 10.1 million in the same period last year. Company’s smartphones are occupying 18.8-percent of the market in Europe, and the company’s market share dropped by 16-percent YoY.
Apple is third-placed in Europe, as the company managed to ship 6.4 million handsets in Q2 2019. Apple is holding 14.1-percent of the market, compared to 17-percent it had in Q2 2018. Apple’s market share dropped by 17-percent YoY.
Xiaomi’s growth is staggering
Xiaomi grew the most in the last year. The company sold 4.3 million devices in Q2 2019, compared to “only” 2.9 million it managed to ship in Q2 2018. Xiaomi occupies 9.6-percent of the market in Europe, and managed to grow a staggering 48-percent in the last year.
HMD Global is far behind the top four companies, as it managed to ship 1.2 million devices, compared to 1.5 million in Q2 2018. The company’s shipments decreased by 18-percent in the last year.
Other smartphone manufacturers in Europe occupy the remaining 14.2-percent of the market, as they managed to ship out 6.4 million devices, 17-percent less than in Q2 2018.
Smartphone sales in Europe did not grow at all
According to Canalys, all smartphone manufacturers in Europe shipped out 45.1 million smartphones in the second quarter of this year, which is approximately the same number as last year (45.2-percent).
Canalys says that “Xiaomi is now a major force in Europe”. The company has been opening its official stores across Europe for quite some time now, and managed to make a name for itself. Xiaomi always does its best to offer really affordable smartphones to its consumers, while keeping their quality up. It seems like consumers in Europe realized that, which reflects on Xiaomi’s sales.
Samsung’s mid-range smartphones did very well in Europe, it seems, which is why the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer managed to grow as well. It remains to be seen if the Galaxy Note 10 series will have a huge impact on Samsung’s status in Europe, we’ll have to wait a couple of months in order to find out.
