Huawei Watch GT 2 Has 2-Week Battery Life Without Wear OS

Huawei has also announced the Watch GT 2 alongside the Mate 30 Series today in Munich.

It’s the follow up to the Watch GT that it announced at the same event last year. That was the first smartwatch that Huawei launched without Wear OS, and this year, it’s continuing that trend.

No love for Wear OS

Given recent events with Huawei and the US, no Wear OS should be no surprise. But Huawei hasn’t been using Wear OS on its smartwatches for quite some time. As it does believe that Wear OS is bloated and isn’t great for battery life.

Instead, the Watch GT 2 is using its own proprietary Lite OS.

Lite OS is exactly what it sounds like, a lighter operating system for wearables. Instead of having a ton of apps and stuff for the watch, it works more like a fitness tracker that gives you notifications. Which makes more sense for your wrist.

Huawei says you’ll get up to two weeks on a single charge with the Watch GT 2. But you can also get 30 hours of straight GPS tracking for those of you that do a lot of running. Or 24 hours of music playback and 10 hours on a Bluetooth call.

Those are some pretty impressive numbers, and these are similar to what it claimed with the Watch GT last year. In reviews, we found that it lasted much longer in the real world.

Beautiful 3D Glass Design

If there’s one thing that Huawei knows how to do, it’s build a stunning smartwatch.

The Watch GT 2 is taking the look from the original Watch GT and building upon it. Upgrading the aesthetics with a full-screen and borderless design. The all-in-one 3D glass surface gives you a wider look and feel without the watch being all that much larger.

The 46mm model (it also comes in a 42mm size) has a dial on the bezel that adopts beveled sculpting and gemstone processing techniques that make it look incredible. The curved dial on the 42mm series is only 9.4mm thin and it has an extremely thin and fashionable metal frame.

Perfect for athletes

The Watch GT 2 isn’t just a smartwatch, but it is also a fitness tracker, and it’s great for those that workout a lot or are athletes.

This is able to track up to 15 different exercises, and it all syncs to the Huawei Health app – available on the Play Store (for now?). It can also collect 190 types of data while you are doing these different exercises and sports.

There is also room for storing up to 500 songs, that way you can leave your phone at home while you’re out on your run.

46mm vs 42mm

The Huawei Watch GT 2 comes in two sizes, as stated already. The 46mm model comes with a 1.39-inch OLED display with a 454×454 resolution and a 22mm strap. The smaller 42mm model has a 1.2-inch OLED display with a 390×390 resolution and a 20mm strap.

Both models are powered by the Huawei Kirin A1 chipset. There’s also support for Bluetooth 5.1, GPS and optical heart rate sensors. It’s also rated at 5ATM for water resistance. Meaning that you can take it in the pool or into the ocean, and it will survive and also track your swimming.

Pricing and availability for the Huawei Watch GT 2 has not been announced yet, but expect that to come pretty soon.
