Samsung has announced its very first 5G-enabled mid-range smartphone, the Galaxy A90 5G. This handset may be a bit confusing, and you’ll realize why in a second.
It’s a mid-range device with 5G connectivity
The Galaxy A90 5G belongs in the company’s mid-range A series of devices. It comes with mostly mid-range specs, and a flagship processor, believe it or not.
The Galaxy A90 5G is equipped with the Snapdragon 855 SoC, which is still a flagship chip. The Snapdragon 855 Plus did get announced a while back, but it’s only a more powerful variant of the Snapdragon 855.
So, this smartphone is fueled by the same processor as the company’s high-end offerings like the Galaxy S10 phones, and the Galaxy Note 10 series.
In order to make 5G connectivity possible, this phone comes with the Snapdragon X50 5G modem. That modem works in collaboration with the aforementioned Snapdragon 855 SoC.
Sleek design with thin bezels
This smartphone is made out of metal and glass. It features really thin bezels, though a display notch is included here. The phone features a dewdrop display notch, which is quite tiny, and a “chin” below the display.
You will notice three cameras on the back of the phone. Those three cameras are vertically-aligned, and located in the top-left corner of the phone’s back side. A fingerprint scanner is not visible because it’s placed under the phone’s display.
The Galaxy A90 5G features a 6.7-inch fullHD+ (2400 x 1080) Infinity-U Super AMOLED display. The device includes 6GB / 8GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage. Do note that the storage expansion is available on the 6GB RAM variant of the phone only (up to 512GB via a microSD card).
Large battery and 25W charging
A 4,500mAh battery is also a part of this package, and it supports 25W Super Fast Charging. The device can scan your face using its front-facing camera. Speaking of which, it includes a 32-megapixel camera on the front (f/2.0 aperture).
On the back, you will find three cameras, with a 48-megapixel main unit (f/2.0 aperture). In addition to that, one 5-megapixel (depth sensor, f/2.2 aperture) camera, and one 8-megapixel (ultrawide, f/2.2 aperture) camera are included.
The phone measures 164.8 x 76.4 x 8.4mm, while it weighs 206 grams. Samsung introduced Black and White variants of this smartphone.
The phone will become available in Korea starting on September 4, and will expand to more markets soon after that. We still do not know how much will the phone cost, though.
