Samsung has finally made the Galaxy Watch Active 2 available for everyone to buy.
It starts at $279, which is a pretty big jump from the Galaxy Watch Active, which debuted earlier this year with a $199 price tag.
There are two models this time around. A 40mm and a 44mm. There will be LTE models available at some point in the future, but for now it’s only available in Bluetooth.
Joining an already crowded fitness tracker field
The Galaxy Watch Active 2 is joining an already crowded field of fitness trackers, which also includes the new Fitbit Versa 2. Fitbit sort of owns this field right now, thanks to it being around for so long, as well as the great battery life that it offers.
But where Samsung differs is in the fact that this is actually a smartwatch, that also tracks your activity. That’s going to allow you to track your activity. That includes your workouts, swimming, and much more. It’s going to allow you to track how many calories you’ve burned everyday as well.
The Galaxy Watch Active 2 can also bring your notifications to your wrist. That means that you’ll never be out of the loop with emails, Twitter mentions and much more. It’s really easy to just check your wrist to see if that email is one you need to deal with right away, or not. Usually it isn’t.
There are plenty of apps available for the Galaxy Watch Active 2, but you really don’t need them. Most of them are pretty useless on your watch, and you’ll need to actually pick up your phone to use them. Which kind of negates the purpose of having apps on your wrist.
Samsung also has some really great battery life on the Galaxy Watch Active 2. We’re talking at least three days on a charge. That doesn’t quite get to the Fitbit level of battery life, but it’s well beyond the Wear OS smartwatches standard of barely a day.

It’s not yet available at other retailers, but that should change pretty soon.
Samsung offers the Galaxy Watch Active 2 in three colors: Aqua Black, Cloud Silver and Pink Gold.
The straps are removable and will allow you to swap them out for another color. But if you do want to do that, the Cloud Silver or Aqua Black might be the better options, as the casing is also in that color, not just the strap.
