LG isn’t always the fastest when it comes to rolling out software updates for its phones. However, a recent leak suggests that the South Korean phone maker is set to turn over a new leaf with Android 10. The company has had multiple screenshots from a couple of its handsets leak out, showing its progress on the Android 10 update.
Several screenshots of the LG V50 ThinQ and the LG G8 both running Android 10 are doing rounds on Korean forums. These screenshots are reportedly from the first Android 10 Beta which is now live in South Korea for some users.
While these screenshots do not confirm that the Android 10 update for LG phones is nearing an official rollout, they do inspire some hope. At least, the update may arrive faster than they have in the past.
Android 10 arrived for Google’s Pixel phones earlier this month. The update for devices from other OEMs will take a while to arrive, as they are working on to add their own look and feel to the platform.
Android 10 update for LG phones
The leaked screenshots reveal that the Android 10 update for LG phones will bring a significant UI change for the company’s LG UX as well. The update bumps LG’s Android skin to version 9.1.
The revamped UI brings a rounded rectangle motif and larger font sizes, completely changing the look of the notifications tray and quick settings menu. LG’s new UI now resembles Samsung’s One UI, as you can see in this screenshots in the gallery below from the Settings app. The screenshot on the left is LG’s older UI, whereas the one on the right is the latest LG UX.
LG is also bringing some changes to the home screen with Android 10. App icons now look slightly bigger and use a more pronounced shape, reminiscent of old iOS icons. Many other stock apps are also seeing similar changes. You can see the changes in this side-by-side comparison of the home screen.
Android 10 brings several new features and enhancements to the platform, including the introduction of a system-wide dark theme and gesture navigation. The dark mode is available in LG’s UI as well, though it lacks a Quick Settings toggle. Gesture navigation, meanwhile, is nowhere to be seen just yet. The feature is said to be under development, thankfully.
There’s no word yet from LG regarding the Android 10 update roadmap for its phones. However, the fact that a few features are still under development suggests we are nowhere near yet.
