The Huawei Mate X will feature a brand new physical key when it gets launched. A Huawei Mate X hands-on video surfaced on YouTube, showing off the device, and that new hardware button.
The new button on the Huawei Mate X is partially orange
That button is placed on the back of the Huawei Mate X, and it features an orange highlight. That way it’s easily recognizable. We don’t really know if its texture is easy to feel with your finger, but it’s possible.
The phone will ship unfolded, it seems, at least it came unfolded in the box shown in the video. The phone folds outwards, and its whole front side ends up being covered by the display when folded. The vast majority of the phone’s back is also covered by the display when folded, but not the whole back side.
There is a camera / grip strip on the back, that the display sits next to. That trip contains the phone’s camera, and the aforementioned button. When the phone is unfolded, it serves as a perfect place to grip the phone. That way, the device can be held with one hand without an issue.
When you press that release button, the phone will unfold on its own, partially. Pressing that button will eject part of the phone from its folded state, and you’ll have to complete the process until it snaps into place.
The Mate X will become the company’s very first foldable smartphone
The Huawei Mate X will become the company’s very first foldable smartphone. It was supposed to launch earlier this year, but Huawei decided to postpone its launch in order to perfect it. The device was initially announced back during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona.
Huawei essentially wanted to avoid Samsung’s fate, and work out the kinks before releasing this phone. As most of you know, Samsung had to postpone the Galaxy Fold launch because of some display-related issues.
The Huawei Mate X is expected to go on sale in China later this month. We’re not sure when will it become available in other regions, though. Whatever the case may be, we’ll get plenty more info once it becomes official.
The Huawei Mate X has a much cleaner design than the Galaxy Fold, at least if you look at it from the front side. The Mate X doesn’t have a notch, or anything of the sort, just the display, and rather thin bezels around it.
The Mate X features an 8-inch 2480 x 2200 OLED display. When folded, you can use a smaller 6.6-inch 24800 x 1148 AMOLED display. It seems like Huawei is planning to release both Kirin 980 and 990 variants of the Mate X.
The Mate X includes 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. 40, 8, and 16-megapixel cameras are included on the back of this phone, in addition to a 3D ToF camera. A 4,500mAh battery is also a part of the package, and it supports fast charging.
