LG has finally announced that the G8X ThinQ is going to be available in the US starting on November 1, with a price of $699.
That price includes the LG Dual Display add-on as well. Which is actually a really good price. But as LG notes in its press release, carriers could charge a different price.
This means that LG is allowing carriers to charge what they want for its phone, which is not something that’s new. But it definitely is keeping LG from selling a good chunk of smartphones in the US.
Only AT&T and Sprint will carry the LG G8X ThinQ
For the first time in quite some time, only two carriers are going to be carrying this LG smartphone. The LG G8X ThinQ will only be available in the US from AT&T and Sprint, and it’s likely that AT&T will raise the price quite a bit more.
The silver lining for T-Mobile and Verizon users that do want this phone, is that it will be available unlocked from Amazon. And it will also work on all four US carriers.
Pre-orders for the G8X ThinQ will begin on October 25, with them shipping on November 1. LG also notes that the pre-order dates and pricing is up to the carriers. So we could see one start pre-orders a bit later on.
There will be some promotions for the G8X ThinQ, which LG says that you could get a G8X ThinQ and the Dual Display for as little as $300. But it has not detailed any promotions yet, as that is all up to the carriers as well.
It’s an incremental G8 ThinQ update
LG announced the G8X ThinQ back in late August, at IFA. It’s a very incremental update to the LG G8 ThinQ that it announced back in February of this year.
There are a few changes though. The biggest one being the notch. LG has ditched the Time of Flight sensor on the front, which is allowing them to shrink the notch. So it’s more of a tear-drop notch. It also got rid of those gestures that never really worked – which was part of that Time of Flight sensor anyways.
Otherwise, it is mostly the same. It still has the Snapdragon 855 chipset, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage with a micro SD card slot.
There’s a 6.4-inch 19.5:9 aspect ratio OLED display here, with a Quad HD+ resolution. This is powered by a 4000mAh capacity battery. We’re still looking at dual cameras on the rear. With a 12-megapixel standard lens with f/1.8 aperture and a 13-megapixel wide-angle lens with a f/2.4 aperture.
It’s definitely not going to be worth upgrading to from the LG G8 ThinQ, but those with a G7 ThinQ or a V40 ThinQ, it might be worth grabbing.
