Google’s newest entry into the personal audio field is the new Pixel Buds.
These are updated version of the original model and come with a number of improvements including more of a wireless design.
The new Google Pixel Buds cost $179 in the U.S. although they won’t be available until next year.
Finally, a true pair of wireless earbuds
Google entered the wireless earbuds market in 2017 with the launch of the original Pixel Buds. While these were wireless earbuds, they were not true wireless earbuds and this was a time when everyone else was releasing a true wireless solution.
The new Pixel Buds rectifies this issue thanks to the completely true wireless design. In addition to being truly wireless, Google also claims a more comfortable and tighter fit overall.
In spite of the even more portable and wireless design, Google has also managed to maintain the same level of battery life as the previous model. The new Pixel Buds come with five hours of usage on a single charge.
Once again, the carry case also acts as a charging case. In total, the case offers up to 24 hours of usage before needing to be recharged again.
Powered by the Google Assistant
Just like the original model, the new Pixel Buds come with a clear focus on Google Assistant. Users can ask questions and get answers or just simply control the listening experience.
However, that’s not all. These are also Adaptive Sound earbuds which means they dynamically adjust to the environment. The idea here is lessening the need for the user to adjust the volume to match the situation. Instead, the Pixel Buds will do the adjusting for you.
This also applies to making calls as well. The new Pixel Buds come with two microphones and use beamforming to focus in on the wearer’s voice. This, along with a “voice accelerometer that can detect speech through the vibrations of your jawbone” means clearer calls, according to Google. Even when your running or it’s extremely windy.
Coming soon, but not soon enough
Although announced today, and although Google has confirmed the price, it seems you’ll have to wait to buy the new Google Pixel Buds.
In fact, Google has yet to even announce a firm launch date. Instead, the company says the new earbuds will be available in the Spring of 2020.
As for the price, the new earbuds will cost $179. That’s $20 more than the original model cost at launch.
