Those of you who have been waiting for the OnePlus 7T durability test, well, the wait is over. JerryRigEverything YouTube channel has just released that durability test, and… spoiler alert, the OnePlus 7T didn’t really do all that well.
Let’s take it one step at a time, though. The video JerryRigEverything published is 8 minutes long, and it is embedded down below. The OnePlus 7T has been put through the usual set of tests for this YouTube channel.
The OnePlus 7T comes with a pre-installed screen protector
The first thing worth noting, is that the OnePlus 7T comes with a pre-installed plastic screen protector. Most people won’t even notice it’s there, while some of you, like myself, will be quick to remove it. That is exactly what the source did before it started this durability test.
The OnePlus 7T’s display is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass, either 5 or 6. Either way, scratches started appearing on the display when the source used a level 6 pick, while deeper ones appeared with a level 7 pick. That is a standard for Gorilla Glass 5 and 6. In other words, this display is not that easy to scratch up. You car keys can’t hurt it, basically.
The earpiece grille that is placed above the phone’s display is made out of plastic. That grille is secure into place really well, though, so it won’t be going anywhere.
The phone is made out of anodized aluminum, the same goes for the phone’s buttons and an alert slider. The back of the phone sports glass as well, and it’s also Gorilla Glass.
The phone’s display lasted for about 25 seconds under direct flame until pixels shut off. That is actually quite a lot compared to other phones, not that it matters much. It almost fully recovered after that.
The OnePlus 7T did great in a durability test, until bend test came along
The point where the OnePlus 7T failed is the bend test. As soon as the source applied pressure on the phone’s back, its back glass cracked. It is possible that the phone’s large camera cutout is to blame for this, but not necessarily.
When pressure got applied from the front, you could hear the back glass moving, but nothing else cracked. The phone did not snap in half like some phones did, but this is not what we’ve expected will happen.
The source was surprised as well, as previous OnePlus devices did not have this issue. Well, we’re not really sure this is an issue to begin with, as you won’t be applying this much pressure to your phone, but still… it’s not what we expected will happen.
This does not change the fact that the OnePlus 7T is a great option. This is one of the best value smartphones in the market now, and your glass won’t crack easily in everyday use.
