Pandora has announced a redesign of its mobile application for both iOS and Android. The company notes that this is one of the “biggest-ever enhancements” to the Pandora mobile experience.
Pandora, as most of you know, is an American music streaming service. Pandora has been founded way back in 2000, and it grew quite a bit since then.
The new “Pandora Mobile Experience” is here
The new “Pandora Mobile Experience”, as the company refers to it, introduces new personalization and discovery features. These features are designed to give all users “full and effortless exposure to Pandora’s on-demand music and podcasts, personalized content, and unique programming and features”.
Just to be clear, by “all users”, Pandora means users across all of their subscription models. That goes for free ad-supported, Pandora Plus, and Pandora Premium users.
Pandora separated the newly-announced features into three categories, For You, Pandora Modes, and Simplified Navigation Interface.
For You is a dynamically-updated discovery feed
For You is essentially a dynamically-updating discovery feed that serves up fresh, custom-curated music and podcast recommendations. These will be provided to every single user throughout the day.
It gives out “deeply-personalized listener recommendations”. So, for example, it can recommend a romantic music station programmed with love songs that Pandora thinks will suit you. On the other hand, it may suggest news podcasts with the latest breaking stories in various fields. These are just some examples, of course.
For You creates “modules” of personalized recommendations, says the company. Such modules are based on categories, like Moods, Decades, and Artists on the Rise. Over 35 different “For You” modules will arrive in the coming months.
Pandora Modes offer you to customize your listening experience
Pandora Modes is a new feature that allows users to customize their listening experience. They can customize their favorite Pandora Stations with selectable modes.
Such modes may include “Crowd Faves”, “Artist Only”, and “Discovery”. The first are the songs within your Station that are most liked by other listeners, while “Artist Only” are songs only by the Station artist. “Discovery” will present songs by artists who don’t usually plan on the Station you’re currently listening to.
Navigation has been simplified
A Simplified Navigation Interface is here to make using the app even more intuitive and faster. Pandora opted for an easy-to-use bottom navigation here.
You can access your favorite music here, and podcasts on-demand. The same goes for personalized content, or discovery of new favorites via “For You”. Everything is really close by, so that you don’t have to do any hand gymnastics.
