Sharp has announced a new Android One handset, the Sharp S7. This handset has been announced in Japan, and the company has some bold claims for the phone.
The Sharp S7 offers has great battery life, the company claims
The Sharp S7 is a mid-range smartphone. Now, based on what Sharp says, this phone can provide up to one week of battery life on a single charge. That will not apply to everyone, of course, but it seems like the company is pretty confident in this phone’s battery endurance.
Truth be said, the Sharp S7 doesn’t really have a large battery on the inside, at least not one-week-battery-life large. The phone comes with a 4,000mAh battery on the inside.
The main reason for such great battery life, Sharp credits that battery capacity, and the phone’s display. The Sharp S7 comes with Sharp’s very own IGZO LCD display. That display measures 5.5 inches, and we’re looking at a fullHD+ panel here.
That display comes with Sharp’s energy-saving technology, by the way. Another piece of the Sharp S7 puzzle that the company mentions as being great for battery is the phone’s processor. The Sharp S7 is fueled by the Snapdragon 630 SoC, which is very power-efficient.
The Sharp S7 also includes 3GB of RAM, and a 12-megapixel camera on the back. That camera features an f/2.0 aperture lens, and EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization).
An 8-megapixel camera is placed on the front side of the phone. An f/2.2 aperture lens is placed on top of that sensor. Sharp’s camera software comes as part of the package.
Android 10 comes pre-installed on this Android One handset
Android 10 comes out of the box on this device, and the company claims that the phone will receive at least one major Android update in 24 months. On top of that, it will receive 36 months of security updates. The countdown will start the day this phone goes on sale.
The device itself seems to be made out of metal, though such info has not been provided. An LED flash is placed below the phone’s rear-facing camera, which sits in the top-left corner of the phone’s back side.
Both Sharp and Android One brandings are visible on the back, while all physical buttons sit on the right. Speaking of which, the Sharp S7 includes volume up, volume down, and power / lock physical keys.
The phone’s bezels are not the thinnest we’ve seen, not even close. That is not all that surprising considering that this phone will be quite affordable, and that it is a mid-range device at best.
The phone will become official in Gray, Peach, and Silver color variants. It will go on sale in mid-December in Japan. It remains to be seen if it will be offered in other markets.
