Google Announces 1st Party Studio For Stadia Games

Google now has a 1st party studio that it will use to create games for Stadia, having revealed this morning that it will be landing in Montreal.

The studio will be the core of Stadia’s in-house game lineup. Aiming to offer game titles which span a wide array of tastes.

There’s no mention of when exactly the studio will be fully operational. It’s not likely to be anytime soon though, as the Stadia team is still looking to fill plenty of positions. That being said, if you’re looking for a job in game development, this might be your opportunity.

The Stadia studio will be led by Jade Raymond

Though Google is looking for all kinds of positions for the new studio, Stadia’s team already has a good set of talent. Including Jade Raymond, the VP and Head of Stadia Games & Entertainment.

Raymond is responsible for working on a handful of other video games as the producer and executive producer. Including titles like Assassin’s Creed and Assassin’s Creed II, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, and Splinter Cell: Blacklist just to name a few.

Her time in the industry easily spans more than a decade. And a lot of that time was spent on some pretty big titles, while forging relationships with some of the biggest names in gaming. Like Hideo Kojima, famed creator of the Metal Gear Solid series, and the upcoming Death Stranding, which launches in just a couple of weeks.

Raymond’s passion for video games is clear. In the announcement, she reminisces about having grown up playing video games with her sisters. Which ultimately put her on a path to helping create worlds for the games she poured hours into playing.

This sort of passion and success bodes well for the future of Google’s first party studio. Especially when you consider that the platform currently doesn’t have much to speak of in the way of exclusive content.

Games will be exclusive & original, and cover a diverse set of genres

When it comes to exclusive content Stadia has some titles on the board. However those titles may just end up as timed exclusives. Meaning they could eventually port to other platforms.

Stadia’s new studio will produce exclusive and original games for the platform. So they won’t be available anywhere else. Stadia also wants to use the studio to create games that cover a diverse set of genres.

So expect titles to pop up in just about every popular genre there is, from shooters to RPGs to racing, fighting and more. Raymond doesn’t name any specific genres, but she did lay out the studio’s goals. A ton of different genres is one of those goals.

In the grand scheme of things, this is a good step for Stadia. Original 1st party titles have the potential to do very well. One only needs to look at Sony’s God of War series to see just how well. In short, Stadia could have a very bright future ahead.
