Redmi had introduced the Redmi K30 a couple of days ago. During the launch event, and after it, Redmi released renders of the phone with a pill-shaped cutout in the display. Well, a real-life image of the phone just surfaced, and it seems like the Redmi K30 has two punch holes on its display.
In case you’re wondering why Redmi’s promo materials are showing a pill-shaped cutout, well, it’s simple. It seems like those are two punch holes, but Redmi decided to mask them for whatever reason.
The Redmi K30’s two punch holes are masked via software
The Redmi K30 will ship with those two holes masked, and it seems like you won’t be able to unmask them. There is no option on the phone for that, only an option to activate a thicker top bezel, and mask those cutouts completely.
When you activate the top bezel, however, you can see that those are two separate holes for a brief moment. Some users have already managed to permanently unmask those two punch holes on the Redmi K30, it seems.
You can see the comparison in the provided image. Truth be said, we can understand why Redmi opted to mask those holes, even though the company should have left users an option in the settings.
It is worth noting that the Redmi K30 is using an LCD panel, so all black bars that have been added via software may not look good as they do on OLED displays. We haven’t really used the Redmi K30 yet, so we can’t tell, though everything looks okay in the provided images.
Under-display cameras will obliterate display holes
Under-display cameras are coming, and chances are we’ll see first phones with such technology next year. There’s a slight chance that OPPO may pull the trigger this year, even, but it’s more likely the company will wait.
OPPO showed off its under-display camera technology quite recently, during INNO Day 2019. That is the second time the company demoed it. This time around people from the industry were able to play around with it.
Images provided from that camera are really good, in fact. Some hazing is present in some lighting conditions, but not many people will mind, presuming it allows them to hide a display camera hole completely.
The Redmi K30 is a mid-range phone, and it arrived in both 4G and 5G variants. The device is fueled by the Snapdragon 730G / 765G SoC, and it includes 6GB / 8GB of RAM.
The device features a 6.67-inch fullHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 20:9 aspect ratio. A 4,500mAh battery is also included in the package, and so is 27W / 30W wired fast charging.
The Redmi K30 Pro will probably arrive in either February or March next year. Chances are that the K30 Pro will be fueled by the Snapdragon 865, and include slightly more powerful internals.
