Samsung's Clamshell Foldable Smartphone Leaks In Live Images

Samsung’s upcoming foldable smartphone has just surfaced in real-life images. This is Samsung’s clamshell foldable smartphone, and it could be the Galaxy Fold 2.

The company had shown off some renders of a clamshell prototype smartphone during its developer’s conference quite recently. That device actually resembles this phone quite a bit, and is expected to launch in February. More on that later.

Samsung’s clamshell foldable smartphone features high display aspect ratio

How, if you take a look at the provided images, you’ll notice that Samsung’s clamshell foldable smartphone has a rather high display aspect ratio. The device folds right down the middle, vertically.

Truth be said, its bezels are thicker than on regular flagship smartphones, but still, they’re not exactly thick. A display camera hole is a part of the design here, and it’s centered at the top of the display.

These images also reveal that a 3.5mm headphone jack is not included in the package. A Type-C USB port is placed on the bottom of the phone, along with a speaker grille.

The phone’s power / lock, volume up, and volume down keys are located on the right side of the device.

If you flip the phone around, you will notice a dual camera setup on the back. Those two cameras are horizontally-aligned, with an LED flash right next to them.

A small display is located on the back of the device

What’s really interesting here, is that a small display seems to be located next to those cameras. This display is showing the current time, and some additional information.

Speaking of the back, it seems like Samsung included glass on the back of this phone as well. Those two cameras may suggest that this will not be a flagship-grade phone, we’re only guessing, though.

This could be the upcoming Galaxy Fold 2 handset, but we’re not so sure. The Galaxy Fold 2 is expected to be a flagship-grade phone, and this could be a mid-ranger. Samsung may announce more than one variant of that device, though, so… who knows.

The Galaxy Fold 2 is expected to arrive in February, along with the Galaxy S11 series. This phone could make an appearance then as well, which may suggest it is the Galaxy Fold 2.

Samsung is betting big on foldable smartphones in 2020. The company is planning to sell 5 million foldable devices next year, and the Galaxy Fold 2 will play a huge part in that. It seems like we’ll see quite a few foldable smartphones next year. Samsung will probably be the largest player in the market, but other companies will board the train as well.
