Qualcomm had introduced its next-gen processors yesterday, the Snapdragon 865 and Snapdragon 765. The first one is a flagship processor, while the second is a mid-range one. Well, Xiaomi has just confirmed that the Mi 10 and Redmi K30 will use the Snapdragon 865 and 765, respectively.
The Xiaomi Mi 10 will include the Snapdragon 865 SoC and a 108MP camera
During the Qualcomm Snapdragon Tech Summit, Xiaomi’s co-founder and VP, Lin Bin, shared the news. First and foremost, he announced that the company’s upcoming flagship, the Mi 10, will be fueled by the Snapdragon 865 SoC.
He also confirmed that the phone will use Samsung’s 108-megapixel camera sensor, the same as the Mi Note 10 and Mi MIX Alpha. On top of that, he said that the Redmi K30 will be the first 5G Xiaomi smartphone that will be fueled by the Snapdragon 765G 5G mobile platform.
He did not mention a 4G variant of the device, but there probably will be one. That model will be fueled by the Snapdragon 765. The Redmi K30 Pro is expected to include the Snapdragon 865, but that model was not mentioned.
The K30 will become official on December 10, but it remains to be seen if the same will happen with the Redmi K30 Pro. The Redmi K30 is said to ship to consumers in January next year, but we doubt the same will be possible for the Redmi K30 Pro.
The Xiaomi Mi 10, on the other hand, will arrive in the first quarter of next year. That is also something the company’s co-founder confirmed. He also added that it will be one of the first Snapdragon 865-powered flagships.
5G-enabled Xiaomi Mi Watch 2 is also coming
The company’s VP also said that Xiaomi is planning to introduce 10 5G smartphones in 2020. On top of that, a 5G Mi Watch 2 is also in Xiaomi’s plans. Lin Bin said that the company is waiting for a 5G version of the Snapdragon 3100 SoC.
We don’t know when exactly will the Mi 10 arrive, but the Galaxy S11 will be fueled by that chip as well. The S11 series will almost certainly arrive prior to MWC in February. Xiaomi will either release the Mi 10 in early February as well, or aim for a launch date after MWC 2020.
We still do not know what the phone will look like, but it’s highly likely it will include a display camera hole. Redmi confirmed that the K30 will include a display camera hole. The same will probably happen with the Mi 10.
The phone will be made out of metal and glass, most probably, and include really thin bezels. Android 10 will come pre-installed on the device, along with MIUI 11 skin.
The Xiaomi Mi 10 will probably be one of the more affordable Snapdragon 865 flagships, at least at first. The company has been doing a great job when it comes to keeping price tags at bay.
The Mi 9 was quite affordable, and yet it was a great phone. The Mi 10 is expected to continue that tradition for Xiaomi. The Redmi K30 Pro, on the other hand, is expected to be even more affordable, presuming it will arrive.
