CES 2020 is now over and Samsung has easily taken home this year’s Best of CES award from Android Headlines for its Samsung Galaxy Chromebook.
Now, it was already well known that Samsung was working on its most powerful Chromebook yet thanks to commits spotted last year in the Chromium Gerrit. But Samsung caught us off guard with its presentation of the 10th Gen Intel Core i5-powered, Wi-Fi 6-compatible beast. At a price of $999.99, this isn’t the cheapest Samsung Chromebook or Chrome OS gadget, in general. But it’s going to offer the very best the platform has to offer.
The Galaxy name heralds more than just design-savviness
The use of an i5 processor is effectively the only area where Samsung held back for its Galaxy-branded Chromebook. That, combined with solid design language, and a maxed-out list of features for less than the cost of a comparable Pixelbook Go, is what has earned the company its Best of CES award.
Tested via Intel’s Project Athena program, that all starts with the fact that this 13.3-inch Chromebook should last a full day even under moderate day-to-day usage. That’s from a 49.2Wh battery, charged via either full-service USB C port. It’s also despite the fact that the Galaxy Chromebook packs an AMOLED touchscreen with 4K resolution. AMOLED alone, in any Chromebook, stands out as a world-first. 4K makes that just that much better.
Other Chromebooks typically don’t ship with a backlit keyboard or a fingerprint scanner either, let along a “UFS/MicroSD Combo” port. Two 2-watt speakers, a 1-megapixel front webcam, and an 8-megapixel keyboard-mounted rear camera round out the package. The latter camera becomes available when this 2-in-1 convertible is flipped into tablet mode.
Helping to drive the 10th-gen processor and Intel UHD Graphics, Samsung includes up to 16GB LPDDR3 RAM. That’s alongside up to a 1TB SSD drive for storage.
Taken into consideration with its all-aluminum build, Galaxy Chromebook already represents a fairly complete package. But the company also set that in a gorgeous Fiesta Red coloration or more reserved Mercury Gray at just 9.9mm thin at 2.29 lbs. And it includes one of its world-renowned S-Pen styli to top the package off.
In the premium Chromebook segment, Samsung Galaxy Chromebook is the best value around
Not only is Samsung’s Galaxy Chromebook the best Chromebook announced at this year’s CES 2020 event in Las Vegas. We are completely confident in saying that it is going to be among the best, if not the best, Chromebooks revealed this year.
Samsung had some close competitors this year at CES, not least of all from ASUS. But its design changes and an AMOLED 4K display were coupled with what could be the best stylus in the mobile industry. A full day battery and bleeding-edge technologies only serve to make it stand out that much more. Samsung held absolutely nothing back.
It’s for those reasons that Galaxy Chromebook from Samsung represents a great value for the segment. When taking into consideration its sub-$1000 price tag, this Chromebook is easily the Best of CES 2020. The Samsung Galaxy Chromebook will land during the first quarter of 2020.
