Galaxy Fold Gets New Security Patch The Same Day As Pixels & Essential PH-1

The Samsung Galaxy Fold is now receiving a January security patch, the same day as Google’s Pixels and the Essential PH-1. This time around, Pixels and the Essential PH-1 were not the first devices to receive this update.

In fact, some of Samsung’s devices got it quite recently. The company had started rolling out this update to the Galaxy S10 and Note 10 series devices a few days ago.

Now, the January security patch is not the same for the Galaxy Fold, Google’s Pixels, and the Essential PH-1. While most of it is the same, Essential and Samsung also threw in some changes specific to their devices. For the Galaxy Fold, it’s sporting the model number ‘F900FXXS2ASL6’. For the Essential PH-1, it comes as Build ‘QQ1A.200105.007’.

As far as Google’s Pixel phones are concerned, each of them has a different build number. Consult the image below the article for more info.

January security patch for the Galaxy Fold brings some Samsung-specific fixes

In its report, Samsung said that the update “fixes critical vulnerabilities discovered in the Android operating system, along with a number of high and moderate-risk vulnerabilities”. It also fixes 17 Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE) items, specific to Galaxy smartphones and tablets.

Samsung also noted that one of such vulnerabilities allowed attacks on the lock screen password on devices with the Exynos 7885, 8895, and 9810 processors.

Now, in terms of the Essential PH-1, the changelog lists only the January security patch, and some audio improvements for the device.

Google is rolling out its security update to eight Pixel phones

This security update is currently rolling out to the Google Pixel 2, 2 XL, 3, 3 XL, 3a, 3a XL, 4, and 4 XL. So, Google is seeding this update to eight devices at the moment.

Changes are not the same for all devices, though. Each group of devices received their very own set of changes. Some of those changes are available for more Pixel phones, some are exclusive for one generation.

So, for example, a fix for color shifting at lower brightness has been released for the Pixel 4 and 4 XL. That is the only phone that this change is available for. It is not the only change that was released for the device.

If you’d like to know exactly what changes Google made for each of its Pixel smartphones, check out the image down below. It details everything that this security patch has fixed.

Updates for the Google Pixel phones, the Essential PH-1, and the Galaxy Fold are rolling out as we speak. In all three cases, these are staged updates, though. In other words, these updates may not be available for your devices straight away.
