JBL has arrived in Las Vegas for CES 2020, with a couple of new pairs of truly wireless earbuds – among other products.
The company announced the LIVE 300TWS and the Tune 220TWS truly wireless headphones. And yes, these names are pretty terrible and hard to remember.
The JBL LIVE 300TWS provides some incredible battery life and sound
First up, we’re talking about the JBL LIVE 300TWS. These look like traditional earbuds, like those that JBL already has in its portfolio – as well as other companies. But these are the higher-end of the two models.
The LIVE 300TWS will feature JBL’s signature sound, which includes some really crisp sound with plenty of bass. It also has TalkThru and Ambient Aware sound control. Allowing you to let in some of the sound around you, instead of being totally isolated.
The My JBL Headphones app is going to allow you to personalize these headphones by adjusting the EQ. But you’ll also choose which assistant you want to use. Whether that’s Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa. Finally, there is also a Find My Buds feature included in the app.
When it comes to battery life, we’re looking at around six hours on a single charge. The carrying case will get you an additional 14 hours. For 20 hours total. That single charge battery life is pretty impressive though. There is also quick charging available via USB-C. Where you can charge for 10 minutes and get an hour of battery life.
JBL made this pair of truly wireless earbuds sweatproof and water-resistant with a IPX5 rating.
JBL TUNE 220TWS are essentially an AirPods clone
Since we haven’t seen enough AirPods clones already, the JBL TUNE 220TWS is here to give us another one. These do look similar to the AirPods, but you can definitely tell that they are not AirPods.
The TUNE 220TWS feature JBL’s pure bass sound. Giving you plenty of bass out of these headphones. The mids and highs won’t be quite as good as the LIVE 300TWS though.
The battery life on these are much lower, and that’s because these are much smaller, but still pounding out lots of bass. So we’re looking at three hours on a single charge. The carrying case will get you about 16-hours for 19 hours total.
You can easily connect to your device and use Google Assistant or Siri. Unfortunately, it’s not built-in, but it can use the assistant over Bluetooth.
Pricing & Availability
JBL says that the LIVE 300TWS will be available starting in the Spring, for $149. It’ll come in four color options: Triple Black, Glacier White, Thunder Purple and Petroleum Navy.
Meanwhile the JBL TUNE 220TWS will be available for $99.95, starting in the Spring. It will come in six metallic finishes: Triple Black, Ocean Blue, Pure White, Sage Green, Dusty Pink, and Stone Gray.
CES is likely to see many truly wireless earbuds being announced, but these options from JBL are pretty impressive, particularly given their price points.
