LG will be launching a host of new 8K TVs at CES 2020 next week. The company will debut a total of eight new TVs at the annual convention which starts in Las Vegas on Tuesday, January 7. The TVs come in multiple sizes ranging from 65 inches to 88 inches.
LG’s 2020 8K TV lineup consists of two premium LG Signature OLED models (OLED ZX) in 88- and 77-inch sizes and six NanoCell-branded LCD TVs in 75- and 65-inch sizes (two size variants each of Nano99, Nano97, and Nano95 TV models).
LG says all of these TVs deliver the “Real 8K” experience as they exceed the industry’s official new 8K Ultra HD definition set by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), which requires a minimum 50 percent contrast modulation threshold.
These upcoming 8K TVs support HEVC, VP9 and AV1 codecs as well as 8K inputs from USB or HDMI. Further, they support 8K content streaming at 60FPS and 8K 60P via HDMI.
And unlike LG’s 2019 8K sets, this year’s TVs do not require an external decoder box to deliver all this flexibility.
LG’s 2020 8K TV lineup also brings significant performance improvement thanks to the new third-gen Alpha 9 AI processor. With LG’s deep learning technology, these TVs are capable of upscaling and sharpening lower resolution content to near 8K perfection.
The TVs are able to recognize faces and text on the screen, fine-tuning and sharpening for natural skin tones and better defined facial features.
The AI Sound Pro technology, meanwhile, identifies between five different sound types and up-mixes the content to virtual 5.1 surround sound to deliver the “exceptional” viewing experience.
Alexa Premium Far-Field Voice support coming to LG 8K TVs
LG’s 8K TV lineup also features the ThinQ AI technology. Users can easily monitor and control compatible IoT devices in the house directly from the TV’s Home Dashboard. Hands-Free Voice Control further allows users to control their connected devices over voice commands.
These TVs support Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit as well as Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. LG promises to add Amazon’s Alexa Premium Far-Field Voice support in the future. It gives third-party devices the same level of voice recognition capability as Amazon’s own devices.
Not surprisingly, LG isn’t revealing the pricing or availability for any of these new 8K TVs yet. CES 2020 starts in just a few days of time and LG will have all of these sets on display at its booth at #11100, Central Hall, Las Vegas Convention Center from January 7 through January 10.
