Samsung is expected to launch the second-generation Galaxy Buds alongside the Galaxy S20 flagships and the Galaxy Z Flip foldable smartphone next month. The Galaxy Buds Plus, as they’ll likely be called, have been making numerous online appearances in recent weeks, including one in Samsung’s own SmartThings app.
Renders of the Galaxy Buds Plus and their charging case in Sky Blue color also hit the internet a few weeks ago. Those leaks revealed that the new pair of wireless earbuds will have pretty much the same design as last year’s Galaxy Buds.
The only noticeable difference is the presence of left and right physical buttons below the LED indicator in the charging case.
Now we have another set of renders that show the Buds Plus in two more colors, Black and White. The new renders show the earphones from multiple angles and they all tell the same story: do not expect a lot of design changes.
Samsung’s Galaxy Buds hardly need any refinement when it comes to design after all. As they say, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus features
Though they may look the same from the outside, the Galaxy Buds Plus will pack plenty of improvements on the inside. To begin with, they will bring a longer battery life, reportedly up to 12 hours on a single charge.
The new buds will also feature audio quality improvements, but no active noise cancellation (ANC). Samsung is ditching ANC in favor of a bigger battery. The battery capacity has been increased from 59mAh on the original Galaxy Buds to 85mAh on the new ones.
The Galaxy Buds Plus will also have four microphones for improved call quality. They, however, keep Bluetooth 5.0 for connectivity, so those hoping for Bluetooth 5.1 will be disappointed.
In terms of pricing, reports say the new buds will be 50 percent more expensive than the original Galaxy Buds. Last year’s buds came with the price tag of $149 at launch.
So according to speculations, the new Buds Plus will be priced in the $225 range. Take this pricing with a grain of salt, though.
Reports suggest that the Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus will come in a pink color variant as well. There could also be a limited edition red color Galaxy Buds Plus.
We will likely see renders in these colors in the days building up to launch. The Galaxy Buds Plus should debut at Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event on February 11.
