LG is working hard on its next flagship smartphone, the LG V60 ThinQ. A leak last month had suggested that the smartphone will feature a quad-camera setup on the back. Now a fresh leak has reiterated the same while revealing additional bits of information.
The latest round of leak comes from noted leaker Evan Blass, who has shared a pair of images on Twitter. The pictures reveal that the V60 ThinQ will feature four microphone channels, though it’s unclear what each of the mics is for. The handset will pack a 5000mAh battery, which charges via a USB Type-C port located at the bottom. The USB-C port is flanked by a speaker and a 3.5mm headphone jack on either side.
There’s a single front-facing camera at the center, so the LG V60 ThinQ will likely sport a waterdrop notch display. Rumors have it that the device will feature a big display between 6.7 and 6.9 inches. And since the images don’t appear to show a physical fingerprint scanner on the back, there will probably be an in-display fingerprint reader on this device.
On the left side of the device are presumably the volume control buttons and the dedicated Google Assistant button. The power button is positioned on the right side. Under the hood will likely be the Snapdragon 865 SoC as this device is expected to come with 5G support.
Note that the LG V60 ThinQ will not have a transparent back despite what you see in the images below.
LG V60 ThinQ launch date
There’s no word yet from LG on when the V60 ThinQ will arrive on the market. The South Korean tech giant was reportedly planning to unveil the device at MWC 2020 in Barcelona later this month. However, it has now pulled out of the event over coronavirus concerns. The company says it will hold a separate event for product announcements. Though no date has been confirmed, expect an LG event around the same time. MWC 2020 commences on February 24.
Interestingly, the device shown in images shared by Evan Blass looks identical to the previously leaked LG G9 ThinQ. LG has been traditionally launching a G series phone around February, while V series devices were announced in the latter half of the year.
However, Blass says the company is shaking things up this year, “bumping” the G series as the spring model. Going by this, the LG G9 could actually be the LG V60 ThinQ. The earlier leak came via OnLeaks and he wasn’t sure of the branding either. He was simply assuming that it was the LG G8 successor based on the timing.
Either way, LG hasn’t yet given up on the smartphone business, though it continues to post huge losses. Will it be able to turn things around a bit with the V60 ThinQ, we will get to know in a few months of time.
