Merge Dragons! & Rick And Morty Event Is 2020's Weirdest Mashup

It’s not uncommon for games to collaborate with other games or other media entertainment franchises, but a collaboration between Merge Dragons! and Rick and Morty has got to be the weirdest mashup of any game so far this year.

On the surface, it might not seem like anything strange is afoot. If you know the story behind Rick and Morty however, and are familiar with the nature of the jokes within the show, you’ll begin to see just how strange this event is.

Merge Dragons! is a game published by Zynga. And also a game which is played by people of all ages. Including kids. Which is the strange part.

How Rick and Morty ended up in the Merge Dragons! universe

How exactly this collaboration came to be is a little unclear. We’ve asked for some clarification on what led to this idea to bring the two worlds together but have so far not heard back.

It’s a story that sounded interesting. And one that I was eager to sniff out given that, separately, these two franchises could not be more far apart.

That being said there is a little bit of detail on how Rick and Morty actually arrive in the world of Merge Dragons! within the world of the game. As fans of the show will be aware, Rick has a fondness for portals.

So much so that all of his adventures with his grandson Morty begin with them entering a portal to some far off place in the universe.

That’s how this adventure starts. As Rick pulls Morty through yet another portal. This results in them ending up in some strange world filled with demonic bovines. With Rick seeking the “greatest item in the known universe.”

This is a limited time event

Rick and Morty won’t be hanging around Merge Dragons! forever. In fact the event collaboration is limited to just a few days.

According to Zynga the event will last until March 2, and it starts today. So any players of Merge Dragons! who also happen to be fans of Rick and Morty will have a few short days to play through the content.

No doubt that, since this is a game meant for all ages, anything that would be non kid-friendly relating to Rick and Morty has probably been left out of this collaboration. Still, there should be some content that fans of the show will appreciate.
