The Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 seems to be in development, according to a new report. Galaxy Club revealed that a new codename surfaced recently, the ‘Winner2’.
If that sounds familiar, there’s a good reason for it. The original Galaxy Fold was codenamed ‘Winner’, so it’s quite obvious what device is this codename reserved for.
The Galaxy Fold 2 is in development, and may launch in Q2 2020
That is pretty much all the information that surfaced regarding the Galaxy Fold 2, unfortunately. A recent report did suggest that the phone will arrive in the second quarter of the year, though.
That information arrived from Max Weinbach, a well-known tipster. He said that the company plans to unveil the device in Q2 this year, which means it will launch in April, May, or June.
The Galaxy Z Flip is coming in a week. That will become the company’s second foldable smartphone, and it will launch alongside the Galaxy S20 series. The company will announce those devices in San Francisco.
The Galaxy Z Flip will become the company’s first clamshell foldable handset. It will unfold vertically, not horizontally like the Galaxy Fold. The Galaxy Fold 2 is expected to unfold horizontally, like a book.
In any case, the Galaxy Fold 2 seems to be in development, and chances are it will include a similar design to the Galaxy Fold, but improved. We haven’t really seen a leak of the device yet, but you can expect it to be made out of metal and glass.
The second-gen ‘Fold’ handset probably won’t include a display notch
The phone will probably not include such a large notch, like the original, we’re expecting it to omit the notch altogether. The device may include a display camera hole, similar to the yet-unannounced Galaxy Z Flip.
The Galaxy Fold 2 will almost certainly be fueled by the Snapdragon 865. That processor will fuel the Galaxy S20 series, and is the best Qualcomm has to offer at the moment.
If everything goes according to plan, the Galaxy Fold 2 will become the company’s third foldable smartphone. Foldable phones are still in their infancy, but we’re expecting to see major improvements with each new generation.
The device will ship with Android 10, and on top of it, you’ll be able to find Samsung’s UI. Fast wired charging will be supported, and the same goes for fast wireless charging.
Only time will tell if Mr. Weinbach’s info is accurate, but he’s usually right when it comes to such info. The Galaxy Fold 2 is expected to be more expensive than the Galaxy Z Flip, by the way. That means it will probably cost over $1,500.
