The Moto G Stylus & Moto G Power Are Official, Both Under $300

The Moto G Stylus is now official alongside the Moto G Power, as the two new phones in the G series lineup have been announced by Motorola this morning.

Both phones come in at under $300, and both come with batteries that have a relatively large capacity.

The most notable thing of course about the two new devices are the departure from Motorola’s typical design. Up until now most phones in the Moto G and Moto E series have looked pretty similar. In fact most Motorola phones over the past five years have.

This time around Motorola has decided to take a fresh approach to the outside aesthetics. Giving both phones an edge to edge display with super slim bezels and punch hole cameras on the front.

The Moto G Stylus hits the market at an official price of $299

Motorola is taking a page out of Samsung’s book with the Moto G Stylus. Providing users with a device that comes with a stylus built right into the phone just like the Galaxy Note series.

Of course this won’t cost consumers nearly as much. As Motorola set the price at $299 compared to the now $690 price of the standard Galaxy Note 10 model.

The Moto G Stylus even has the punch hole camera on front of its 6.4-inch Full HD display. Though it’s more towards the corner and the phone itself has more rounded edges. Looking at it though it definitely seems to take some inspiration from Samsung.

Inside, the Moto G Stylus is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665, and comes with a 4,000mAh battery. It also supports 10w rapid charging and has a “water repellent” design. Which probably means it’ll be safe from light rain and the occasional splash, but not from immersion.

When it comes to the cameras, the Moto G Stylus has a 16-megapixel sensor on the front, but where it gets more interesting is the rear camera array. Motorola uses four sensors here, one of which is a Time of Flight camera for laser autofocus.

There’s also a 48-megapixel main sensor, a 2-megapixel macro vision sensor, and a 16-megapixel sensor for action shots. It comes with 128GB of internal storage but does also support up to 528GB of external storage via microSD cards.

The Moto G Power features a bigger battery capacity & a smaller price

Both new phones are relatively similar across the board, save for a few things. The cameras on the Moto G Power aren’t as nice and it doesn’t have the ToF sensor, but the phone does still have the triple camera array on the back, it’s less expensive, and it comes with a larger battery capacity.

As for the sensor quality, you’re looking at a 16-megapixel main sensor, a 2-megapixel macro vision sensor, and an 8-megapixel wide-angle sensor for capturing wider shots.

It’ll retail for $249 and the battery goes up from 4,000mAh to 5,000mAh, so you’ll probably have to charge it less. It also features the same rapid charging which means when you do need to a top-up, it’ll gain power back quickly.

You don’t get as much storage here internally, but 64GB with expandable storage support is still a lot for many. Especially those looking at budget devices.

It also uses the same 6.4-inch Full HD display as the Moto G Stylus, so you’re getting a big screen to work with. One cool new feature on both phones is what Motorola is calling Moto Gametime. A feature meant to prevent interruptions while you play games.

This isn’t a revolutionary feature on smartphones these days, but it’s nice to see that Motorola is catering more to gamers. Both phones also come with 4GB of RAM and dual stereo speakers tuned by Dolby, which should help the experience for all types of entertainment.

Motorola is launching the Moto G Power and Moto G Stylus in the US and Canada only for now. They won’t be available until sometime this Spring, but when they arrive you can pick them up from various retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart and more as unlocked devices.
