Missile Command is a classic game that many gamers may remember if they’ve been around for a few decades, and ATARI is bringing it back in a recharged way.
The company today just announced Missile Command: Recharged. A new take on the retro classic that had legions of gamers striving to best the person with the high score.
ATARI plans to launch the game in the Spring. It will come with a bunch of content that will not only make you feel nostalgic, but hold your attention thanks to the numerous features that have been added to spice things up.
ATARI is bringing Missile Command: Recharged to Android and iOS
When the game arrives this Spring for mobile devices it’ll be available on multiple platforms.
You will be able to play it on Android smartphones, as well as on iPhones and iPads. ATARI says the game will have modernized mechanics that were designed with touchscreen devices in mind.
So based on that everything should play exceptionally smooth. At the very least the controls should be more than manageable.
When the game launches it will be free to download and have ads. There may be an option to make a one-time purchase to remove ads, though this wasn’t mentioned. It’s simply an option that is available in many free-to-play arcade games.
You can project your gameplay using augmented reality
Among the list of modern features that Missile Command: Recharged will offer, the augmented reality feature has to be the coolest.
It lets you basically project your gameplay onto a virtual arcade cabinet. Giving you the ability to experience the game in a new way. Or you could just play the game normally. That’s the beauty of it as you can swap back and forth whenever you like and it should draw in new players who may have never touched the original, but like these flashy new functions.
In addition to the augmented reality feature the game will also come with the ability to acquire powerups to boost your abilities, and achievements to acquire.
There’s an upgrade system for the gameplay too. However it’s not entirely clear what can be upgraded. It’s merely noted that all aspects of the gameplay can be upgraded using the points you earn from playing.
