Google Nest Was Down For A While, It's All Good Now

Google Nest services suffered an outage yesterday. The impact was severely felt by users of the Google Nest thermostat, Cam Live Video and the Google Nest apps. As of writing this article, the services are restored.

Google Nest Support confirmed this outage on their official Twitter handle on March 28th. The company stated that they were aware of an issue which was affecting some Google Nest devices.

Consumers were unable to login to the service on home.nest.com and the Nest mobile app. Even the live video streams from the Cam Live Video devices was also down. Consumers were unable to access their smart thermostat devices as well.

As such, several users took to Twitter to complain of frequent outages that happened to the Google Nest services this year. In fact, Google Nest services were down on March 26th this year as well. A similar issue was identified which had affected Google Nest login and device connectivity.

In both instances, on March 26th and on March 28th, the company had swiftly resolved the issue. However, Google Nest has not released any clear explanation for what caused the outage. These frequent outages remind us of the frequent outages the service suffered during the end of 2018.

After each failure, the Google Nest team apologizes to the customers and the service gets restored in some time. However, the company has never given a detailed explanation of what caused the outage in the first place.

Google Home and Nest devices power the Google Nest smart home ecosystem

The ecosystem brings together multiple smart devices like smart thermostats, live cameras, doorbells, alarm systems etc.

There are two variants of the Google Nest thermostats available – the Nest Learning Thermostat and the Nest Thermostat E. Both these devices work with a majority of 24V heating and cooling systems. Users can remotely control these smart thermostats from anywhere using the Google Nest apps.

The Google Nest Cams are available in four variants – the Nest Cam IQ Outdoor, the Nest Cam Outdoor, the Nest Cam IQ Indoor and the Nest Cam Indoor.

These smart cameras are capable of 24/7 live video with features like familiar face alerts, talk and listen as well as person alerts. Consumers need to have the Google Nest app on their smart phones to receive these alerts.

As such, consumers usually use the Google Nest Indoor Cams as baby monitors and for home security. However, consumers need a Google Nest Aware subscription for some of these smart alert features to work.
