OnePlus Extends Warranty & Return Periods Due To Coronavirus

The Coronavirus pandemic has brought almost the entire world to a halt. And while the fight continues, many companies have come forward assuring customers during this hard time. OnePlus has now announced some measures it is taking to make things a little easier for its customers.

Following up on a post by CEO Pete Lau last week, the company recently announced that it is extending warranties on its devices for up to three more months and also offering longer return periods. OnePlus is also offering free two-way shipping for all returns, replacements, and repairs.

There’s also a “back-up device program” in the works. The company isn’t detailing this program much but says it’s planning a pilot program for Europe and North America with limited stock. Under this program, OnePlus will likely send you a replacement before you ship your defective phone for repair. This ensures that the customer will always have a phone in hand.

“OnePlus remains committed to serve and provide continuity of after-sales services during these uncertain times,” a company executive said in a blog post. “We encourage all our customers to follow public instructions to stay safe and healthy.”

The company has implemented preventive measures, including enhanced cleaning procedures, strict hygiene, and sanitation at all locations.

OnePlus extends warranty and return periods

OnePlus smartphones, or smartphones in general, usually come with 12 months of warranty. The warranty period begins from the date of delivery, though it may vary depending on the region. If your device stops functioning properly within the first one-year period of purchase, OnePlus will repair or replace it at no additional cost.

However, with the world coming to a standstill because of the Coronavirus pandemic, sending your phone to a service center for repair isn’t quite possible at this moment, at least in some regions. In view of the situation, OnePlus has announced an extension of the warranty periods. Any warranty that was set to expire between March 1st and May 30th has now been extended to May 31st.

Further, if you’ve recently bought a OnePlus phone and want to return or replace it for some reason, your return period has been expanded to 30-days. Earlier, you needed to return devices within 15 days after delivery. The company will cover all the shipping charges as well. Another helpful move in this time of financial uncertainty.

OnePlus has also put together an FAQ regarding the warranty adjustments and its service continuity plan based on regions. Separate FAQs have been made for India, Europe, and North America.
