Phone Comparisons: OPPO Find X2 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra

We’re here to compare two new, and extremely powerful phones, the OPPO Find X2 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. These two handsets are amongst the most powerful smartphones in the market at the moment. They’re the most powerful phones OPPO and Samsung have to offer at the moment.

These two phones are similar in some ways, but completely different in others. Their designs are somewhat similar, though the Find X2 Pro comes in several variants. The internals are quite different, though. Both phones are based on Android 10, but both of them have skins pre-installed, and those skins are also considerably different.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra is also the more expensive phone here. It’s not exactly an earth-shattering difference, as the Find X2 Pro is also quite expensive, but it’s quite a bit of money. In any case, there’s much to talk about here, that’s for sure, so let’s get started, shall we, let’s compare the OPPO Find X2 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra.

OPPO Find X2 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra: Design

First and foremost, do note that the OPPO Find X2 Pro comes in two different design variants. One variant includes a ceramic backplate, while the trades that ceramic for (vegan) leather. The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, on the other hand, sports a glass back. The ceramic Find X2 Pro, and the Galaxy S20 Ultra are extremely slippery. They are actually quite comparable in that regard. The Vegan Leather OPPO Find X2 Pro is much more grippy, which is to be expected due to that leather on its back.

The Galaxy S20 Ultra is considerably heavier than the Find X2 Pro. The main reason for that is its stainless steel frame, the Find X2 Pro utilizes aluminum. Stainless steel is tougher than aluminum, but it’s also heavier. The Galaxy S20 Ultra weighs 222 grams, while the ceramic Find X2 Pro weighs 207 grams. The Vegan Leather Find X2 Pro is the lightest one at 200 grams. The Galaxy S20 Ultra does have a slightly larger display than the Find X2 Pro, but it’s also both taller and wider than the Find X2 Pro (the phone itself).

Now, in terms of looks, the two phones are a bit different. Both have extremely thin bezels, and their rear cameras are located in the top-left corner. The Find X2 Pro includes a display camera hole in the top-left corner, while the Galaxy S20 Ultra’s is centered. The Galaxy S20 Ultra’s rear-facing camera module is considerably larger than the one on the Find X2 Pro. The Find X2 Pro’s is taller, but it’s not nowhere near as wide as the Ultra’s.

Both of these smartphones have curved displays, though the Find X2 Pro’s is more curved than the Ultra’s. Company brandings are placed on the back, while both phones feature right-facing power / lock key. The volume buttons are not in the same place, though, as they are on the left side of the OPPO Find X2 Pro. The Galaxy S20 Ultra’s are on the right, above the power / lock key. Both of these phones look quite sleek, and quite frankly, we’re unable to decide. The centered display camera hole looks better on the S20 Ultra to our eyes, but the camera module looks better on the Find X2 Pro. OPPO’s handset also comes in more than one variant, and gives you options. It’s all the matter of preference here. Both of them look great, and offer great build quality.

OPPO Find X2 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra: Display

Samsung flagships usually win display comparisons, but that’s not the case here. Both of these phones have amazing displays, and we’ll even be gold enough to say that they’re the best in class. These two displays are probably in the top three displays on smartphones today, if not the top two. Both of these displays are of the OLED variety, and both are QHD+ in resolution.

The OPPO Find X2 Pro features a 6.7-inch QHD+ (3168 x 1440) AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate. The Galaxy S20 Ultra, on the other hand, packs in a 6.9-inch QHD+ (3200 x 1440) Dynamic AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate. Both displays support 240Hz touch sensing, and both are protected by the Gorilla Glass 6. Both of these panels can get extremely bright, and OPPO even boosted colors on its panel, and it really pops.

Colors are amazing on both phones, while both panels are extremely sharp. The OPPO Find X2 Pro does have an advantage if you want to use 120Hz refresh rate at QHD+ resolution. It can do both at the same time, while the Galaxy S20 Ultra cannot, at least not at the time of writing this comparison. The Galaxy S20 Ultra can either use 120Hz at fullHD+, or 60Hz at QHD+, it cannot do both at the same time.

Still, even if you set the Galaxy S20 Ultra at 120Hz and use it at fullHD+ resolution, you’ll find no complaints. We’d actually recommend high refresh rate over resolution here, as it is that noticeable. Content on both displays is extremely smooth, while both are incredibly responsive. We really cannot select a winner here, these two displays are amazing, and on the same level, pretty much.

OPPO Find X2 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra: Performance

So… performance. If you’re worried about it, you should not be. The OPPO Find X2 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra offer stellar performance. Both devices are packed with the latest hardware, and their software is really well optimized. Both phones are fueled by the Snapdragon 865 SoC, and packed with RAM. Both phones come with 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM, while the S20 Ultra is also available in a 16GB RAM flavor.

Both companies have decided to utilize UFS 3.0 flash storage in their devices, which is yet another performance-related benefit. Samsung’s One UI 2 skin is really well-optimized. The company has come a long way since TouchWiz days, that’s for sure. OPPO made a huge jump when it comes to software as well. ColorOS 7.1 is smoother and better-looking than ever before.

You’ll be struggling to make either one of these two phones skip a beat. That goes for pretty much anything you do with them. Regular performance is as smooth as butter. You’ll be able to launch apps extremely fast, multitasking, consume media, and so on. Gaming is also a non-issue for both devices. Both can handle the most demanding titles from the Play Store, so you’ll well-covered in that area as well.

These two phones are definitely on the same playing field in terms of performance. Choosing one would be unfair, as both are stellar in this regard, at least for the time being. It’s a tie.

OPPO Find X2 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra: Battery

So, what’s the deal with battery life, and everything battery related? Well, first and foremost, let’s just say that both phones offer really good battery life. We’ve used both devices with 120Hz refresh rate enabled. The OPPO Find X2 Pro was set on QHD+ resolution, while the Galaxy S20 Ultra was on fullHD+, as we were unable to use both 120Hz refresh rate and QHD+ resolution at the same time on that phone.

With those settings, and our use, both phones were able to get over 6 hours of screen-on-time. On some days, both phones were able to go above that, and cross over that 6.5-7-hour mark. All in all, battery life on these two phones is really good. We imagine you’d get considerably more if you switch to 60Hz refresh rate. That is not something you should do, though, as you’re paying a premium for high refresh rate, so you should use it.

The Galaxy S20 Ultra has a larger battery than the Find X2 Pro, in case you’re interested. It comes with a 5,000mAh unit, while the Find X2 Pro packs in a 4,260mAh battery. Both phones support fast wired charging. The Find X2 Pro is faster in this regard, as it offers 65W charging, compared to the Ultra’s 45W wired charging. The Galaxy S20 Ultra does offer fast wireless charging (15W) on top of that, though, and 9W reverse wireless charging.

Taking all that into consideration, we’ll give a small advantage to the S20 Ultra. The phone was able to provide a bit more battery life, while it also offers both wireless charging and reverse wireless charging. Its wired charging may be a bit slower than the Find X2 Pro’s, but it’s not slow by any means.

OPPO Find X2 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra: Cameras

Both of these devices include a periscope-style camera on the back, in addition to the main and ultrawide cameras. The Galaxy S20 Ultra also includes a ToF (Time-of-Flight) sensor on the back. Having said that, camera performance on both phones is really, really good. We would not go as far as saying these two phones are the best in the market in the camera department, but they do come close to that.

Images from the main sensor on both phones are great, especially in good lighting, and during the day. Images turn out sharp, with plenty of detail, and the colors are also great. The dynamic range is great on both. We did notice that images taken with the camera in such conditions are usually a tad bit sharper on the Galaxy S20 Ultra, but the Find X2 Pro’s main sensor does a great job overall as well, and images from it tend to look more realistic, and yet not boring. Samsung still tends to oversharpen some shots, which is not something many of you will appreciate.

The Galaxy S20 Ultra also has some issues with focusing at the moment. An update for that is coming, but at the time of writing this comparison, it had issues with hunting focus from time to time. It sounds worse than it is, though, as it doesn’t really happen as often, and it’s more of an issue when shooting a video. Nighttime shots look really good on both phones, though the Galaxy S20 Ultra has a slight advantage here. Images take with it tend to be a bit sharper in really low light conditions, but the Find X2 Pro handles night lights better.

Periscope cameras on both phones can be really useful, especially when there’s plenty of light outside. The best results can be achieved if you don’t go over 10x zoom, though. The Find X2 Pro can go all the way up to 60x, while the Galaxy S20 Ultra caps out at 100x digital zoom. You shouldn’t use them at those levels, though, as the results are poor, as expected. Up to 30x, though, both are quite usable, and up to 10x, great even. Things may change when updates start rolling out, and some issues get fixed, but at the moment, we’d say these two phones are on par in this category.

OPPO Find X2 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra: Audio

In terms of audio, well, both are good, but the Galaxy S20 Ultra has an advantage, at least for us. Both phones feature a set of stereo speakers. The main speaker is located on the bottom of the phone, while the secondary is above the display. Speakers on both smartphones are really good, though the S20 Ultra’s gets a bit louder, not by much, though. Distortion is minimal at high volumes on both phones.

You won’t find a 3.5mm headphone jack on either of these two devices, unfortunately. If you plug in a good pair of headphones, or connect them via Bluetooth, you’ll be able to get really good sound quality. Highs and mids are really good on both, while the lows are bit better on the Galaxy S20 Ultra. All in all, the Galaxy S20 Ultra wins this part of the comparison.

That brings us to the end of the OPPO Find X2 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra comparison. So, as you can see, the Galaxy S20 Ultra won this comparison. Do note that it’s a really small difference, though. The audio difference won’t matter to many of you, nor will you notice it. The difference in battery life is also negligible, it won mainly because it offers wireless charging and reverse wireless charging. So, we would not say it’s worth spending around $/€200 more on the Galaxy S20 Ultra. Both are extremely expensive, though, so you’ll be spending well over $/€1,000 if you plan on purchasing them unlocked.
