Phone Comparisons: OPPO Find X2 vs Find X2 Pro

OPPO had introduced two flagship smartphones in March 2020, and we’re here to compare them. We’ll be comparing the OPPO Find X2 vs OPPO Find X2 Pro. These two devices have quite a bit in common, but they’re not identical. There are some differences that make the ‘Pro’ variant more powerful. Needless to say, it’s also more expensive.

Some of you will probably want to know if the Find X2 is worth it, is it that much inferior to the ‘Pro’ iteration, or at all. Well, that’s what we’re here to find out. These two phones are both powerhouses in their own right, but we’re here to find out which one is ahead, and by how much.

As per usual, we’ll compare the two phones across a number of categories, starting by listing their specifications. Following that, we’ll compare their designs, performance, battery, cameras, and audio aspects, before leaving some final thoughts for the end of the comparison. OPPO Find X2 vs Find X2 Pro: Design

The OPPO Find X2 and Find X2 Pro are actually extremely similar when it comes to the design. If not for some differences in the camera module on the back, you’d be hard-pressed to tell the difference between the two. Not only do they look almost identical, but they’re almost the exact same size. The Find X2 is a bit shorter, wider, and thinner… but that is hardly noticeable, as their dimensions are close to being identical.

Do note that we’re talking about ceramic and glass variants here, the Find X2 Pro also comes in a Vegan Leather model, but that is a completely different story. That phone is easily recognizable due to the leather back, of course. The Find X2 comes in Ceramic and Glass iterations, while the Find X2 Pro comes in Ceramic and Vegan Leather variants. The Vegan Leather variant of the Find X2 Pro is thicker than the regular model, but other than that, there are no differences in terms of dimensions.

The ceramic OPPO Find X2 Pro is the heaviest phone in the series

The Ceramic Find X2 Pro is the heaviest Find X2 series device at 207 grams, while it is followed by the Vegan Leather variant at 200 grams. The Ceramic Find X2 weighs 196 grams, while the glass model weighs 187 grams. That being said, the front side of these two phones looks the same. Both of them have extremely thin bezels, while the top and bottom are slightly thicker than the side ones. Both phones feature curved displays, and rounded corners. A display camera hole is also included here, it’s placed in the top-left corner.

Both phones are curved on the back, and quite slippery, at least the glass and ceramic variants are, the Vegan Leather Find X2 Pro is a different story entirely. The Find X2 Pro’s rear camera module is taller and narrower. It’s taller because of that periscope camera module that is not included in the Find X2. An LED flash is a part of the rear camera module on both phones, and it’s placed below the camera sensors. There is no real winner in terms of the design here, these two phones are almost identical in that regard.

OPPO Find X2 vs Find X2 Pro: Display

In the display department, the two phones are identical, completely. Both of these phones include 6.7-inch QHD+ (3168 x 1440) AMOLED displays. Those two displays come with 120Hz refresh rate, and O1 Ultra Vision Engine. We’re also looking at curved panels in both cases. All in all, both of these displays look great. Well, it’s one display, but it’s used on both phones.

This panel is really crips, no matter what you’re looking on it, it’s extremely sharp, many would say more than you need. The colors on it are really punchy, and the panel is also quite contrasty. You have some additional options in the settings, so if you don’t prefer the vivid look, you can always opt for something else. The point is, this panel delivers in all areas, and the blacks are also properly black, as you’d expect.

On top of all that, it offers a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Yes, you can use QHD+ resolution at the same time as 120Hz refresh rate, unlike on some other phones. The experience is great, as the display is incredibly responsive, and a real joy to use. Content glides across the display with ease. You will definitely notice the difference between a 60Hz display and a 120Hz one. The difference is even noticeable when you jump from 90Hz to 120Hz, but it’s not as pronounced. All in all, this display is one of the best in the business, and it’s used on both OPPO flagships.

OPPO Find X2 vs Find X2 Pro: Performance

Is the performance any different? Well, no. They offer the exact same performance, which is not surprising, as they pack in the same hardware that impacts performance. The two phones come with the same processor, RAM, flash storage type, display, and processor. OPPO has decided to utilize LPDDR5 RAM on both phones, along with UFS 3.0 flash storage. That is commendable, and definitely beneficial for the user.

The only difference in all that is in the storage department, and only because the Find X2 Pro offers more storage. It comes with 512GB of storage instead of 256GB. But everything else is the same, and both phones offer the same performance, pretty much. They’re both incredibly fast, even when you set them to QHD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. They can handle power-intensive games without a problem.

Opening apps, multitasking, surfing the web, using the camera… they can handle all that with ease, no worries whatsoever. Android 10 comes pre-installed on these two phones, along with ColorOS 7.1, OPPO’s Android skin. ColorOS has been improved immensely over the years, and it definitely shows here. It’s a rather solid alternative to stock Android, OxygenOS, MIUI, and other Android iterations.

OPPO Find X2 vs Find X2 Pro: Battery

Now, in terms of battery, the OPPO Find X2 Pro has a very slight advantage, it’s barely noticeable. The Find X2 comes with a 4,200mAh battery, while the Find X2 Pro includes a 4,260mAh battery. As you can see, the ‘Pro’ model does include a slightly larger model, but chances are you won’t notice that in your usage. Both phones offer basically the same battery life.

Even if you use QHD+ resolution with 120Hz refresh rate, you should be able to cross the 6-hour screen-on-time mark on both phones. Presuming you’re not big on gaming, of course. That is actually a really good battery life considering what you’re using. You can even get some extra battery life if you enable the intelligent refresh rate mode. The benefit is not that big, though, around 10-percent.

Both devices support SuperVOOC 2.0 fast wired charging. That is OPPO’s 65W wired charging, and it can charge up this battery insanely fast. This is one of the fastest charging options in the market at the moment. Neither of the two phones supports wireless charging, though, in case you were wondering. This will end up being a tie as well. The ‘Pro’ model has a 60mAh benefit in the battery department, but you simply won’t notice that, at all.

OPPO Find X2 vs Find X2 Pro: Cameras

The biggest difference between these two phones lies in the camera department. The OPPO Find X2 Pro has the advantage here, it is able to provide better pictures in almost all conditions. OPPO opted to include a more powerful camera hardware inside the ‘Pro’ model, and that is not exactly surprising. Both devices do have three cameras on the back, though, but different sensors.

The OPPO Find X2 Pro comes with two 48-megapixel cameras, and a 13-megapixel periscope telephoto camera. OPPO utilizes Sony’s IMX689 and IMX586 sensors for 48-megapixel camera sensors, both utilize wide-angle lenses. The Find X2, on the other hand, combines Sony’s IM586 48-megapixel main sensor, with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide angle camera (Sony’s IMX708) sensor. On top of that, it has a 13-megapixel telephoto camera.

What does that mean in practice? Well, first and foremost, the Find X2 Pro includes a newer 48-megapixel sensor for the main camera, in addition to the IMX586 one. Images from the device in daylight look sharper, richer, and the dynamic range is better. At night, they are a bit brighter, better balanced, and sharper as well (All pixel omni-directional PDAF definitely helps). The Find X2 does have an ultrawide camera, if that’s your thing, that is an area in which the Find X2 Pro cannot compete.

The Find X2 Pro does include that periscope camera on the back, and it’s quite useful. It offers 10x hybrid zoom, and 60x digital zoom. The Find X2’s telephoto lens cannot compete with this, not even close. Don’t get us wrong, though, the Find X2 camera is quite capable, but in comparison with the ‘Pro’ model, it loses the battle.

OPPO Find X2 vs Find X2 Pro: Audio

Both OPPO Find X2 devices are fairly good in the audio department. Both of these phones include dual stereo speakers. The main speaker on both phones lies on the bottom, while the secondary one is placed above the display. The output does seem to be a bit louder on the Find X2 Pro speakers. The Find X2 Pro also comes with Dolby Atmos support, unlike the regular model.

The Find X2 Pro adopts a 0.65cc amplitude full-band stereo speaker, which does help with bass a bit. Neither of the two phones includes a 3.5mm headphone jack, but you can always use a Type-C port. If that’s not your thing, Bluetooth is always an option as well. Whatever you choose, you’ll get a really good audio output through headphones, presuming that you have a good set of headphones, of course. We did not notice much difference in headphone audio output between these two phones. The Find X2 Pro does have an advantage in terms of bass, and speakers, though.

The overall winner

The OPPO Find X2 Pro did win in this comparison vs Find X2, but barely. Both devices are great, though if cameras are an important factor for you, the Find X2 Pro is a better choice. The difference in audio output is minimal, so that is not something that should concern you. In every other section, the two phones are basically identical. So, if you’re looking to spend a bit less cash, and don’t really want the best of the best in the camera department, getting the regular model may be a better call.
