Mario Kart Tour is finally getting the long-awaited multiplayer mode that it’s been lacking since the launch, so you can finally toss red shells at your friends.
Arriving this Sunday, you’ll be able to race against your friends (frienemies?) head to head on the collection of tracks that are available in the game. Which will switch from time to time depending on what cups are currently running.
The new mode will not pop up however until 8PM PST, which means you’ll have to wait until Sunday evening to actually play the content. That is unless Nintendo releases it early which is entirely possible.
Race against in-game friends & local friends in Mario Kart Tour
The new multiplayer mode is a robust one, having been in testing in two different betas prior to the launch coming up.
If you were curious about how it all works, Nintendo says that you’ll have a few different ways to race against friends in Mario Kart Tour. First, you can race against in-game friends. All you have to do is link up for a match if you’re both playing at the same time.
You can also race against local friends. In multiplayer mode, you’ll have the option to race people that are nearby. Making this perfect for when you’re hanging out with others and want to get in a few rounds.
Lastly you’ll be able to race against people globally through the online capability. Even if your friends aren’t playing and there’s no one nearby that’s online either, you can still enjoy multiplayer against other real players.
It won’t be quite like the experience on Nintendo consoles, but it’s a close second and a feature the game sorely needed.
You can race against seven other people
In addition to the multitude of ways you can race against other players, you can race against up to seven of them.
If you have seven friends who actively play, this is a feature which is likely to excite you more than it will for some others. It’s also nice to see Nintendo allowing you to link up with seven friends.
If you haven’t picked up Mario Kart Tour in a while, this Sunday might be the perfect time to hop back into the fray.
Multiplayer for #MarioKartTour comes out on Mar. 8, 8 PM PT! You can compete against seven other players, whether they’re in-game friends, nearby, or around the world. Are you ready to play? pic.twitter.com/IRwBONq560
