Samsung’s pricey foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Fold, didn’t quite get a premium treatment as fas as Android 10 update is concerned. The update finally started rolling out for LTE variants of the $2,000 smartphone last week. The Galaxy Fold 5G is now making the big jump as well.
Samsung is currently rolling out the Android 10 update for the Galaxy Fold 5G in the UK. The update comes with the firmware version F907BXXU3BTC9 has an over the air (OTA) download size of 2354.59MB. The file size and firmware version may vary according to region and carrier, though.
This update packs the March 2020 Android security patch and also brings One UI 2.1 to the Galaxy Fold 5G. For the uninitiated, One UI 2.1 is the latest iteration of Samsung’s custom Android skin. The new software first shipped with the Galaxy S20 lineup and the Galaxy Z Flip.
Samsung last month released One UI 2.1 for the Galaxy Note 10 and the Galaxy S10 devices as well. The Galaxy Note 9 and S9 phones were also expected to get the newest One UI version, but a new report from South Korea suggests they may not.
As for new features, the Android 10-based One UI 2.1 packs several features and enhancements in the camera department. Features like Single Take, Night Hyperlapse, Pro Video mode, improved Night Mode, and Custom Filter greatly improve photography and videography capabilities of Samsung flagships. One UI 2.1 also brings features like Quick Share, Samsung’s alternative to Apple’s AirDrop, Music Share, and Quick Crop.
Since this is the first Android 10 update for the Galaxy Fold 5G, it’ll also be packing a built-in screen recorder, Google’s UI navigation gestures, new camera UI, enhanced Dark Mode, and several bug fixes and performance improvements.
Galaxy Fold 5G gets Android 10 update
After a pretty big delay, Samsung is now finally ready with Android 10 for the Galaxy Fold 5G. Surely, this delay has to do with the device’s unique form factor. The developers needed more time to optimize the new OS for this unique device.
That still isn’t a reason enough for such a long delay, though, given the price users have paid for it. It’s $2,000 price tag warrants the top position in Samsung’s priority list for software updates.
Nevertheless, the update is now rolling out and we hope it’ll be available for users across the globe fairly quickly. You should get a notification when the update becomes available for your Galaxy Fold 5G. You can also manually check for the update by heading to the Software update menu on your phone’s Settings app.
